:TIt's my hubby's birthday tomorrow. We were going to have fish and chips and go to the pub. That would have been about £25 worth of expense.
Instead we've made a couple of curries from freezer and store cupboard ingredients which taste delicious and we will heat them up tomorrow. Probably healthier too, as plenty of vegetables in the dishes. We have a bottle of wine that we can use to toast his birthday and some economy tealights from xmas for the table.

I have a hand and body wash product I use for washing my hands. I've decided to use it as shower gel too as it is gentle. I've just run out of shower gel, so one less product to buy.

All the envelopes I get from junk mail, I cut up today to use as shopping list paper.

So far, I'm managing to get my debts down and save more, so feel a little extra time to find savings at the moment is worthwhile for helping to keep me on track.:j

The key thing I find is not to allow yourself to feel hard done by or that you are missing out. I hope to increase my income in the future, but for now I'm staying focused on debt reduction and saving to get a more stable situation to build a future on.

Evening all - the boys have gone to football!!! :j I'm thrilled to have a night off from them, mainly because I'm tired but also because of something similar to this...
What is it with men?!

OHs day off and he asks if he can help so said dust frontroom. Anyway I popped in to borrow duster and he's sitting down. Asked if he had done dusting, said yes already done (really?! That quick?! Within two minutes?!). So I finish the bathroom and realise he had literally run the duster over a few things and hadn't done it 'properly' so I end up re-doing the whole room

I asked him to do 3 things... wash up, clear space for new freezer and collect my prescription. He washed the dishes in the sink but none of the ones next to the sink, moved two bikes from the outhouse to outside the back door, and forgot to get my prescription. He knows I'm peeved but it's a mutual thing. I've just been a bit grumpy full stop today actually. Work was pants and I feel as though I've been rushed off my feet from the second I got up.
Thanks everyone for all the advice re the woodfiller. We have a Screwfix close to work, which I love, so I'll get some from there - forgot to take my purse to work this morning :o

I'm another one singing your praises Ally - thanks for the link. Until last night I hadn't even realised that wood filler existed. I suppose that's my next 'annoying job' on the list.

It's easy to use wood filler.

    Use
sandpaper to clear away the damaged wood.
Vacuum away any dust left in the whole.
Fill the hole wood filler using a putty knife, or if you don't have one you could use a dinner knife or a disposable plastic knife from a picnic set or an old bank card! :rotfl:
Allow the filler to dry for a couple of days.
Sand over the repair til the door is smooth.
Repaint the door. You may need to give it lots of coats over the filled section.

    And there you go. Fixed.

  • CCL I have been in a bad mood today too, not sure why. Little things annoying me! It's just frustrating that on his day off, he sits on his bum playing my sons FIFA game whilst I run around cleaning, cooking, washing, looking after the children... Is it too much to ask to do one thing properly?!

    Evening Frugal Ones,
I did manage that useful day in the kitchen.
*Last laundry load of the week on heated airer, which will be switched at bedtime to maximise cheap tariff.
    *Made tomorrow's packed lunch.
*Lifted forcing crock & pulled my spring rhubarb - about 1kg. Roasted most of it with sugar, ginger & orange zest & juice a la Delia. Portioned it up for freezing.
    *Baked a dozen bread rolls.
*Baked 20 mini- muffins to use up the rest of the rhubarb. Iced them too, which used up a stray half lemon from the back of the fridge.
*Checked veggies to make sure nothing going past its best. Sliced & froze 1 pepper. A few onions just starting to sprout. Used them to make a batch of creamy onion soup for the freezer.
*Rubber chicken. It's done 2 days of meals already plus I did fajhitas tonight, made a sandwich & still have enough to make stew for tomorrow. Carcass went in slow cooker for stock.
*Made a good start on next week's meal plans (inspired by having frozen 4 leftover tortilla wraps to make quesadillas).
*Mr f found a Blu-ray box-set we wanted in CEX for £7. He'd only just checked the price on Amazon the other day - £29 - so a decent bargain. (£3.50 each from our 'Personal Spends' so no hit on bank account).
*Finish sewing up a knitted cat (my 17th!).
*Don't cave in to actual REAL cat who says he has no intention whatsoever of finishing this morning's meat or biscuits. Could get interesting as I have no intention of opening anything else. He's tried asking....he's on to the charming stage now.
Before I sign out, this may raise a smile. Had been feeling vaguely uncomfortable all day......did not discover until around 6pm that I had got my pants on back to front!! Really should have mastered dressing myself by now :-)
Have a nice calm evening, everyone.

Sorry, too tired again today for much:

    * Found a fiver in my wallet. Do not know how it got there.

    *
Bought OH's birthday present. A new camera lens. Got it secondhand for a third of the price new. OH is going to sell an old lens to part finance this which is just as well as these things are pricey.

    * Went to work.

    * Trying to use less gas this month. Bill was too high last month.

    Morning All

LaE - Thanks for starting us off today
CCL - If you have a W*lko nearby they usually have all manner of diy stuff including wood filler at reasonable prices - would your DH be willing to pop out during the day to get some, may be one less stress for you

    Today I will try to:

Badger school for a call back (phoned last week and twice yesterday and still no return call) - Done, received two calls from head of Y8, she spent some time with DS and apparently he still worries about my health and didn't like to ask about the funeral procedures etc, he was so happy when he came home
Packed lunch for DH & DS - Done (DS is still not 100% but has gone back to school following much pressure and questioning from school kids. I believe some of his illness is lack of sleep due to all the stress, still waiting for results of mums op and brother dying and then arranging funeral etc - hard for adults to deal with let alone children )
    Check Bank - Done
Builder returning to finish off today (as he kept popping out yesterday) - Done, not happy
Massive clean (as dust is absolutely everywhere) - Done
Craft (have two scrabble/word art to do for Mother's Day for a friend and maybe some art for Spring Fayre at mum place) - Done
Investigate wills and power of attorney for mum (at younger brothers insistence, because he dealt with his inlaws he doesn't want to deal with it again :o )
Tidy more of attic - Done
Continue purge on Emails - Done a few
Complete a few surveys - Tomorrow
Enter a few comps - Done a few
All meals from cupboards/fridge/freezer - Done
Check https://www.freepostcodelottery.com - Remember there are now 5 chances to win - Done
    Check Lucky Phone - Done

Have a good day! Love to you all!

Feeling extremely low the closer it gets to the funeral on Thursday and then the builder has really topped off my day - price increased from the £245 quoted to £270 and then he asked for another £30 for this morning - he didn't finish the job yesterday because he didn't bring the door frame, architrave, hinges or latch so had to go out to fetch them - even tho he agreed to supply. He then popped out with his wife for another 45 mins or so.

Door is scraping on floor and doesn't even close properly
Said he would remove all rubbish but it's all in my bin and all over front yard
Where door connect to frame - he's only put one screw in each hinge

DH not happy at all and phoned him back and told him to come back and sort everything, so he's coming back Thursday (the morning of the funeral)

Managed quite a bit of list, made a list of what I need to achieve tomorrow.

Stay safe lovelies as weather seems to be changing for the worst again tomorrow.

    Night all xx
