PIP- No face to face assessment required?

Hi guys.
i have made an application for PIP on my sons behalf (he got awarded DLA in December and received the PIP forms in January when he turned 16).
I phoned the helpline last week to see what, if any, progress has been made and was told that it has been decided that he doesn't have to go for a face to face assessment and that his case is with the decision maker.
Does anyone know if this is an indicator of whether he will or wont be accepted for PIP?

They will not decline a claim without a face to face assessment, so it's reasonable to assume his claim has been accepted.0

it isn't an indication as unlike ESA there is no requirement for a face to face if you're denied PIP, there is also no requirement for a face to face if you're awarded PIP.
You shouldn't have long to wait though.Master Apothecary Faranell replied, “I assure you, overseer, the Royal Apothecary Society dearly wishes to make up for the tragic misguidance which ended so many lives. We will cause you no trouble. We seek only to continue our research in peace".0 -
Thanks guys, i appreciate the quick response
2 differing answers...not sure which one is correct now, LOL.0 -

That's an internet forum for you.Master Apothecary Faranell replied, “I assure you, overseer, the Royal Apothecary Society dearly wishes to make up for the tragic misguidance which ended so many lives. We will cause you no trouble. We seek only to continue our research in peace".0 -

Hehe, yep
Maybe i should have asked people if they have had a positive result (as in, have they been awarded PIP) after not being called for a face to face assessment.0 -
From the PIP Assessment Guidance
Cases that should not require a face-to-face consultation
2.5.10. In certain circumstances it should be possible to provide advice at a
paper based review. Although each case should be determined
individually, The following types of cases should not normally require
a face-to-face consultation:
• The claimant questionnaire indicates a low level of disability, the
information is consistent, medically reasonable and there is
nothing to suggest under-reporting.
• The health condition(s) is associated with a low level of
functional impairment, there is nothing to suggest underreporting
and the claimed level of function is not supported by
further evidence. For example:
o Claimant with asthma who uses salbutamol PRN, no
preventer medication, under GP care only, no hospital
admissions. Even if they claim a high level of functional
impairment this is medically improbable. A face-to-face
consultation would not add much useful additional
information, bearing in mind that clinical examination is likely
to be unremarkable.
30
• The claimant questionnaire indicates a high level of disability, the
information is consistent, medically reasonable and there is nothing
to suggest over-reporting
• The health condition(s) is severe and associated with a high level of
functional impairment which is consistently claimed. Examples
might include:
o Claimants with cardiorespiratory conditions such as severe
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) or those
awaiting a transplant.
o Claimants with severe musculoskeletal conditions such as
poorly controlled rheumatoid arthritis or severe osteoarthritis
awaiting major joint surgery.
o Claimants with severe neurological conditions such as motor
neurone disease, dementia, Parkinson’s disease, a stroke
resulting in a significant impact on the claimant’s functional
ability - for example, those left with lasting neurological
deficit such as left sided hemi paresis (the inability to move
the left side of the body), etc.
• Any case where there is sufficient detailed, consistent and
medically reasonable information on function.
So you can see that you do not have to have a face to face before a PIP decision is made.
You still have the right to appeal.0 -
Thanks pmlindyloo, i appreciate that
So it makes no difference in regards to awarding standard/enhance/not at all, just that enough evidence was received, and no over/under reporting is suspected.

Just a thought, but if he was only awarded DLA in December did he have an assessment then? It may be that since he was only awarded DLA a couple of months ago they decided to use the report / evidence from his DLA assessment?0

I got this when I applied for PIP,
I wasn't sure I would get the award never mind a paper based acceptance, Mine got passed back to the decision maker at DWP, Got a 5 year awarded to me... Next review 2019.
People say PIP is a complete farse etc, But if people are genuinely disabled or ill they will get what they are entitled to.0 -
