Anyone used Motorpoint?

Well that post alone is enough to put me right off!
A friends son bought a 57plate WRX from Motorpoint, came with a 2yr EU Warranty as the third year is a dealer warranty (this may have changed since then but was he case when I bought both my Subarus new a few years earlier)
The car never had the Momo wheel but rather a leather one from a more basic Impreza or Legacy (was identical to the one in my 04 Legacy)
Apart from that it looked just like a UK model except it was £16k instead of £22k
Fords of Winsford used to sell cars in Eire spec, 406 diesels in my experince.
As long as you do your due diligence on what you are actually getting I can't see the issue, unless you order your car in a specific spec it might have been built several months earlier.
Though I suspect that sort of building then trying to sell is a thing of the past.
Last year when the Clio died I went to Dacia to buy a brand new entry level Sandero, they had none for at least 6weeks. Even without any options. So a 116d at auction it was (wish I had just hired a car for 6weeks and waiting for the Dacia to be fair)
If the deal adds up the go for it.0 -
Currently on my 6th Car from Motorpoint, a 15 Reg Volvo V40 SE Lux Nav with loads of extras.
Purchased it 6 months old with 4k miles on the clock for just over £15k (Was £29k with the extras new), it even came with the £1900 Driver Support Pack Included, A real bonus on the motorway where it will follow the car in front braking and accelerating to match the speed they are doing even down to a full stop in traffic jams, then off it goes when they do. 300 miles to London and back never touched the brake or accelerator once!.
Never had a problem with them, the PX values the offer are low but sell private or be prepared for it.
Aftersales very good, got home and found damage on the Volvo steering wheel, someone had shuffled the wheel while wearing a sharp ring damaging the leather. Volvo would not touch it under warranty, but Motorpoint ordered and fitted a new Steering wheel..
Been using them years and I change my car every 12 to 18 months due to the mileage I do..
Have Had Fiats, Fords, Renaults and now the Volvo from them
Always my first choice for nearly new, have tried others (Available Car etc) but always seem to be back at Motorpoint to do the deal.
Never had any problem with the remaining warranty.. On the Volvo as it was 6 months old I asked if the AA Cover would transfer and motorpoint said no, but when I spoke to Volvo they said it did and it was 3 years the same as the warranty so another bonusOver 100k miles of Electric Motoring and rising,0 -
Bought my last but one Hyundai from them - was a pre reg though, 4 months old with 7 miles on the clock and saved over £1k against similar deals.
Their finance wasn't the cheapest and their mats n plates were overpriced & added onto the screen price, as was car tax Also, avoid their gap insurance - can be bought half the price if needed. They weren't too pushy on these things though.
I got the reg and rung Hyundai to confirm it had the full UK 5 year warranty.
All in all, a reasonably pleasant experience0 -

Therein lies the problem - a lot of people quote "massive" savings by comparing the RRP of the UK to the imported car price.
Big discounts are available here as a matter of course on most UK cars if you make a bit of an effort, so your headline discount is usually closer to £2000-£3000 and then you have to factor in other incentives you wont get, spec differences, residual value, etc, etc.0 -

I'd have no particular issue buying a used stack-em-high-and-sell-em-cheap ex lease / ex rental car off them if the price was right, however thats not the type of car the O/P is asking about - hes asking about a brand new EU import car0 -

that may be the case in the bigger cities but living in a rural area with little or no competition for the dealers trying to get a pound off is like trying to get blood out of a stone
I have given up trying to buy cars around wales now and take to the net and search the dealers around the bigger cities
I got an excellent deal from TC Harrison fords in derby because they have to try and compete with the likes of motorpoint who are a few miles down the road so you can get a better deal from the main dealers who are on the doorstep of the car supermarkets0 -

We've been quite lucky in getting the last couple of cars we've been after locally here in Northern Ireland at very competitive prices, but i must say, like yourself i'd have no issues going farther afield. I got my FIL's car for him off Lookers in Bootle and had it shipped over here for £180 on a transporter. I'd have no issues looking nationally for cars.
Generally, when i'm buying i want the car that i'm buying to be in the lowest 10% of pricing nationally when i do a search, otherwise i'll look further afield.
It is getting quite common now for people to be looking at prices well outside their local area hence more expensive local dealers lose out.0 -

His WRX was to EU spec hence the 2 yr warranty.
I have never heard of Subaru giving £6k discount on a brand new WRX.
Please tell me when they do as it would be a good deal.
The car was sold three years ago and he got the same price as any similar WRX in Autotrader.
Apart from the steering wheel there were no differences in specification that I could see.0 -

I would be extremely surprised if a WRX was £22,000 in 07. We gave £19995 for our ProDrive modded WRX-S new in 2010. From memory - and i remember because i very nearly bought in Jan 2007 an STI which were £26995 - the WRX at that point was £19,995.
Effectively Subaru have given £4,000 discount off their current WRX STI as they've price dropped it from £32,995 that it was a couple of years ago to £28,995.
Likewise if you can find an importer knocking £6,000 off that price, let me know.
EDIT : Just checked Parkers there, the Impreza WRX was £20K in 2007, not £22K, so your £6K saving was actually £4K, and i'd save you'd have got 10% off a UK car at the time anyway (just like you can on an Impreza or a BRZ right now if you check broadspeed), so you're back to saving £2K for having an import - which is bang on back to what i said in the first place.

Just did a bit of checking there - there were differences in safety specs of non UK Subarus at that time - for example in relation to the number of airbags, etc.
Also, cars imported from Belgium for example didnt have the same level of rust proof sealant underneath as UK cars got.0
