I'm currently trying to get into an iva my meeting of creditors is today - i'm self employed and been able to add my energy suppliers debts on the iva i'm currently with eon and ive been told that i should change energy suppliers i have spoken to someone today who said that because i'm in a contract with eon i won't be able to get a new supplier?? Any help would be greatly appreciated - can i just stay with eon?? how does it work?

A lot depends on the outcome of the meeting today, but i'll assume your IVA has been approved
As eon are included in your IVA you'll almost certainly be defaulting. Eon may be happy to keep supplying you on a new contract, or they may no longer want you as a credit customer.
As you have or are about to default with eon I'd suggest that switching early would be less of a problem. I'm not sure how the switch would work, as you don't want to transfer the debt (the debt is for IVA company to administer, you shouldn't be repaying directly, or moving the debt to another provider)
I expect what will happen is that eon will create a new account for you, with a zero balance(possibly with same terms as old and tie in like old, possibly just standard tariff). I would take a meter reading now, as that will determine what usage was pre IVA.0
