Fuel filter is around £9 to buy as a part
Not always, and depends on the design, I've paid about £30-40 for a fiesta tdci filter from euro car parts before. It was the cheapest I could find at the time.0 -
Kwikfit tried to fail my car on emissions once and claimed if I paid them £20 for a can BG44K it would pass. Thy never gave me the emmissions print out and when I asked about it the claimed the rules had changed. Funny how I've had one every year since.
Never use Kwikfit again.0 -
I don't believe a fuel filter will fix excessive smoke unless it's in a real bad condition. The fuel filter isn't due every service, our car is every 3 years or 30k. As a result it's frequently missed
every mot I've ever had they've adjusted the headlight alignment free of charge.
For a mondeo tdci can get them for £3 +vat, wonder why the fiesta one is so expensive.mark5 wrote:Not always, and depends on the design, I've paid about £30-40 for a fiesta tdci filter from euro car parts before. It was the cheapest I could find at the time.0 -

Halfords fitted the bulb with the 'we fit' service, but it looks like they put it in wrong and that cost me £39 to fix!!!
halfords done it to my car didnt realise till mot-dont use them they have any old person who doesnt know each and every car and he snapped a part off of mineWhat goes around-comes around0 -

Different filter design, different engine designers, the £3 type is probably a simple inline design but just because they cost £3 for one car doesn't mean they do for other cars.
The same filter for that fiesta is available online for £20-25 now, my wife run that fiesta for 6 years without one problem though so can't complain to much!0 -

Some fuel filters have built-in pressure regulator like on my Golf which is probably why it's more expensive to manufacture.0 -

£3+vat for a fuel filter for a diesel Mondeo?
I had an 05 130tdci and the filters were nearly £20, you could get a cheap Crossland filter for £14 but I only use Bosch, Hengst, Mann etc.
A fuel filter is even more important in highly tuned modern diesels.
There are, as already mentioned, huge variances in fuel filter design, even on the same vehicle.
The early Pathfinder had a choice of two filters, one was under £10 the other near £45.0 -

As a previous post of mine mentioned - the fuel filter was 'meant to be' changed at the service it had (3 months prior to the MOT)...
I do have the old filter here - and I cannot see how old it is or if it is faulty!!
What kind of filter is it? Is it in a metal housing or can you see the actual filtration paper?0 -

If you have taken your car to a local garage and have you're average car then I think you've been ripped off. A fuel filter is an easy change (assuming that's all they did) and a headlight alignment is again relatively easy. I'd expect your labour charge to be around £48 and the cost of parts, a maximum of £15.
I wouldn't be charging you any more than that.
You might want to charge a bit more to go back in time 15 months and fix the issues the OP had, back in FEBRUARY 2016.0
