You need an amateur radio licence for this one - https://github.com/JamesP6000/WsprryPi (and preferably no neighbours for a mile or two).
Antenna is just pushed onto a couple of those GPIO connectors.
Even with the trifling power and two stages of low pass filtering the interference created is horrendous. This thing can wipe out anything nearby from CCTV cameras to DAB radio and probably well beyond. I've got a spare Pi 1 now having upgraded to a Pi 2 with the intention of running this project on the Pi 1 it superceeded.0 -

A quick update.
The new model 3 Raspberry Pi was delivered in 48 hours and I finally got time to set it up over the weekend.
I decided that I was going to leave the weather station running on the model 2 and transfer all the other stuff on there, mainly Python development stuff to the new model.
I set up the new Pi with the latest OS and copied all my Python files over from the model 2.
At this point I realised that the weather station had been happily ticking away since it was first set up and the software had never been updated. This seemed like the ideal opportunity to bring both the Pi OS and the weather station software up to date.
Note to self: Wander down the garden and replace batteries in the weather station base unit. I can't remember the last time I did this. In fact I'm surprised it's still transmitting!
Rather than mess about I decided on a clean install of both OS and the weather station software, so after backing up the weather database and other files I wanted to keep I formatted and reloaded the SD Card with the latest Pi OS then did a clean install of the latest weather station software.
Everything went well and worked first time with the exception of the weather station ftp to the website due to a couple of typos in the config file. One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0 -
How does the RPi3 compare to the 2? Worth the upgrade?
I've been trying to set Jasper up on the RPi2 this weekend.. rather unsuccessfully. Got a USB mic working fine, finally got the sound over HDMI.. Spent 4 hours building the Jasper Package on Raspian.. oh no, won't recognise the microphone.
Trying to make a home-made Amazon Echo and failing0 -
What weather station software do you use? WeeWX?
I have two weather stations in different locations. One runs on the original Pi with no problems at all. I've put the one at home on my Pi 2 along with some other 24x7 stuff.
I must admit I haven't updated anything since I set them up. If the Pi 3 had come along late last year I'd probably have got one but I won't have time to play until much later this year now.0 -

Yes I'm using Weewx.
When I first set it up it was running on the original Model A Pi and worked OK. Then I wanted top build the robot so bought a model 2 for the weather station and simply put the SD Card from the mmodel into the model 2 and started fresh with a minimal 4GB card in the robot.
At that time weewx didn't have native Pi support as such but a lot of people had it working, mostly all different setups.
I picked one that was fairly well documented and got it working quite easily.
These days there are huge numbers of weewx users using a dedicated Pi for their weather stations and the later software versions reflect this and there is now a standard build in the setup.py file where the directories and file locations differ from my original setup. They are much simpler and easier to follow and maintain if needed.
I am now up to date and everything is where it should be and setting up is a breeze.
Download the latest version tar file, unpack it and edit the weewx.conf file run setup.py build then setup.py install and that's it.One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0 -

Yes I think so, it definitely feels more spritely although not such a huge improvement as the model 2 was over the model 1.One by one the penguins are slowly stealing my sanity.0
