Paying contract by Standing Order

Options
Hi,

I would like to be able to pay a mobile contract by standing order, so that the payment only goes out on the day of the week that I get paid (not the date of the month, like Direct Debits).

Does anyone know of any companies that allow this payment method?

TIA

As the amount can vary each month, I think they all now insist on a DD being set up.

I also believe that many no longer accept payment by cheque.
  • It's news to me that Standing Orders can be set up to go out on anything but a date.

I have standing orders in place for paying off debits. You cannot pick the date its up to the one collecting, which date they want the money. All standing orders mean is a set amount is taken they cannot take more than that.

Direct Debits bills are set for certain dates and will come out that day every month. Unless of course the date falls on a weekend or a bank or public holiday. They then come out the first bank working day after that.

    You live and learn.
    Many (most?) banks/BSs offer every
    • week
    • fortnight
    • 28 days
    • month
    • quarter
    • half year
    • year

    options for SOs.

Not that I am saying that any is appropriated for a mobile contract.

True. However, that would not guarantee the money goes out on the same day of each week.

You can set what ever date you like for standing orders and it does not have to be a regular amount or regular interval

Standing orders are controlled by you, you send the money rather than them taking it you decide what date to send it

It would guaranty the same day for the first three options. Each week - for the first one.
  • In case this is useful for anyone else, I've found that 3 allow payment by standing order, but charge an extra £5 a month. Not a perfect payment method for phones, but useful if you get paid 2 or 4 weekly.
