You could run Malwarebytes free http://filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/ It's best to do it in safemode. If the problem remains you could run sfc to see if any system filles are corrupt. If still no go back up your data and do as suggested do a reinstall.

Running malwarebytes in safemode is definitely NOT best practice.
Although it will work in safemode, this should only be done if it will not actually run in normal mode , and then a normal mode scan should be run when possible.

Many of the things that malwarebytes scans are not loaded in safemode.

" MBAM loses some effectiveness for detection & removal when used in safe mode because the program includes a special driver which does not work in safe mode. Further, scanning in safe mode prevents some types of malware from running so it may be missed during the detection process. For optimal removal, normal mode is recommended so it does not limit the abilities of MBAM but sometimes there is no alternative but to do a safe mode scan."

And why on earth would you download if from filehippo ??

That's fair enough I suppose, and I can understand that for more obscure or slightly harder to find software .. but why would you not just download from the official site ?

Is it just personal preference ?

Are the file hippo versions bang up to date like you would get from the original source ?

p.s. I've just had to rebuild a w8.1 lappy for someone who got infected and part of the infection was to disable the pagefile  the infection must've edited/deleted a registry key, couldn't find it so what with that and the other file corruptions caused the only thing to do was rebuild

Ok it says automatically manage paging file size for all drives which is ticked
    257877mb space avail
total paging file size for all drives
    min allowed 16mb

    recomended 3528mb
    currently allocated 12288mb

the system manage size box is ticked

it's a handy one-stop-shop for all the standard free sw I generally put on a new build, and if you open them alll in new tabs before you start, it makes it easy :) and yes, they're normally up-to-date versions...

Strange. I've run MBAM in normal mode and it picked up nothing, then in safemode and it picked up a nasty. BTW Filehippo is a very safe site and all programs are bang up to date. I deliberately didn't give the official MBAM site as it tries to get you to install the professional version which for the non-tech is not easy to revert to the free version.

    Have a great day debunking.

look at the memory use of each process in task manager or
look for a runaway or duplicated user initiated process (eg browser) in task manager or
    close some browser tabs or
close and reopen the browser or
    use a different browser or
    reboot

browser plugins/ad blockers can cause maps to appear slow

setting a custom size max of 3GB, when it can currently stretch out to 250GB if need be will make the problem worse if anything
Don't you dare criticise what you cannot understand

Only thing I have open now is a couple of webpages at 860 KB (881,304 bytes).
It is still crashing and telling me I have no enough memory. It use to be so much faster.
Can I add more memory to the laptop? would that make it faster and not low on memory? If so how do I do that?
