Car Tax - Any Ideas?

Just went to renew my car tax and realised its £90 for SIX months!!
anyone know of any cars which are less than this?!
Thanks
Never worked out this logic. Car tax is a pittance compared to the annual cost of car ownership so if £100 a year is a big issue, can you afford a car in the first place?
Also lower band cars are more expensive for your money so the money you'll save on the tax, you'll spend several times more to buy the equivalent mileage/age/condition that you have now.0 -
the new vw polo is road tax free beacause the emissions are so low
there is no other car that beats it0 -
my BMW 1 series is £115 for 12 months, however, the new ones with the better particulate filter (from 1st sept) makes it even lower and £35 for 12 months!!!!
I wonder if you could fit the newer particulate filter and get the tax band changed?! (Would be good if the cost could be recouped in tax savings.)0 -
I think the BMW 1 series and 3 series have a refined engine - would imagine its more than the particulate filter?
As to the OP just look for cars with CO2 emissions lower than 120 co2/kmmatched betting: £879.63

Anyone know of a method of converting or estimating g/km from the % volume given in MOT emissions tests? I was just wondering where my old car is likely to come on the scale of the new system and how much it would cost. At last MOT my car was measured at 0.16% vol.0

Current range of Fiestas, 1.6TDCI, £35 a year road tax, 60 + to the gallon.
Plenty of others like that too !0 -

Yes I can more than afford a car. The thing that gets me with the road tax is : what do I get for my money?? Yes my car may emit more emissions than others, which is fair enough, but as for actual road 'tax' - where does that money get spent? Certainly not to fix holes in roads (of which I've had many a dented alloy).
And as per my original post, it was £100 for SIX months, not a year.:staradmin:staradmin:staradmin:staradmin:staradmin0 -

Hi,
Do you have a model no? Just looked at the VW website and the new polo's are about 138g/km which is still in a band c?
Thanks:staradmin:staradmin:staradmin:staradmin:staradmin0 -

Seems like you enjoy nice fast cars as your tax is in the top half. Your fuel bill will be higher too and it doesn't get you any further in distance.
You should complain to the local council if a pothole causes damage. They should eventually pay the cost to repair damage or replace the wheel. You should take pictures of the pot-hole and note the location and complain, complain, complain. I know of someone who eventually got money out of the local council to replace an alloy wheel a while back after they tried passing the buck by saying it wasn't their responsibility, but another council's responsibility, leading to the need for someone to clearly examine the exact borders for the correct council to take responsibility and pay up. I suppose this sort of damage is more likely these days with the craze for big wheels and low profile tyres, the tiniest of potholes will cause damage.
Unfortunately you have to pay road tax, and god forbid, by mile pricing is possible in the future.0
