@OP ... if the hirer sent a replacement, so that you had a box to use on the day, and then sent a courier to collect both, what is your loss? You paid to hire a box, you got a box. Why is any refund due?0 -

According to the OP, she is expecting a refund of her deposit.
One can only guess that the OP paid a deposit together with the hire fee, and when the box(es) are returned then the deposit would normally be returned.0
