Go for the highest cover you can afford - and try PetPlan rather than anything else. Some insurers are pretty good but they may be here today and gone tomorrow as some companies pulled out from pet insurance and left a lot of people and their pets in bog trouble.

What breed/size is your dog? Some breeds are prone to certain conditions that are very expensive to treat so it is best to have a very good cover xx

I've had my cat and dog insured with animal friends for the last 2 years. However, I have not needed to claim in this time. Having read some of the links above I have informed them I do not wish to renew. My dog is now 14 and my cat will be 8 this year. Can any one recommend a goof insurance company for my old boy? He has no existing medical conditions and on his last check -up the vet said he was in very good health for his age.
    Thanks

Petplan will cover him on a limited policy- £3000 per condition for 12 months So , after 12 months from claiming you would not be covered for that particular condition.
At his age and his medical history you may consider that enough.

I insured my 10 year old with Tesco with £7000 cover per condition lifetime cover. So he is covered for each condition until I have claimed the £7000 for it. He has had some treatments which were below the excess anyway and not ongoing conditions so exclusions for them are not a concern.

Tesco also have a fixed excess no matter what age the dog is.

I have not had to claim so can't comment on that but a friend has had no problems with her claims.

Morethan will also cover old dogs but I do not know their current policies.

There may be other companies that cover old dogs but these are the three I looked at.

Think I will go for Pet plan will be around double what I am paying currently for both my pets. However from what is being said and from reading they are worth it.

I claimed through Tesco last summer (almost £800) . There were no problems & they settled quickly.

Also, I've just switched my 14 month old to Pet Plan & her pre existing treatments were excluded for 12 months from date of last treatment - after this they are fully covered as normal.

They seem to be very fair with young dogs so the OP will hopefully be ok. Best to ring them and do it over the phone rather than online so you can explain the previous history.
