I have my young dog (Lab) insured through Animal Frinds paying around £15. What are your thoughts on this company? As a fellow dog owner on a walk told be to tread with caution.
Thanks

Avoid like the plague. Really good at taking your cash, really bad at paying out.
Please think long and hard about insurance companies for your pet insurance.
We use Pet Plan, have done for over 20 years now, yes its a more expensive but you gets what you pay for. xRIP TJ. You my be gone, but never forgotten. My heart is in my mouth before even clicking on these links.0 -
To be fair, people on forums tend to only post criticisms rather than praise. But Animal Friends does seem to pop up a little more often. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

My concern is he has been to the vet regarding biting himself too much and the vet thought it was diet related. So switched onto a different food (Burns). How will any future insurance company view this? I only went to seek guidance as I was worried he was going nuts with an itch. But seems to have calmed since switching and his teeth have more or less come out from what I can tell.
My cat is with PetPlan so between them both currently paying £27 a month. Cat Petplan - Dog Animal Friends.0 -
Personally I would switch the dog's policy to another insurer, if you can afford - PetPlan being the first choice.
You MAY have an exclusion on skin conditions but personally I would still switch away from AF.
I have 6 cats insured with PetPlan for 7k per year (not per condition, per year lifetime policy) and dog with Argos Platinum again for 7k per year lifetime. Never had any issues with claims and my dog alone had over 20k claims paid for by Argos (dog will be 10 yo this year)0 -
How old is your dog? You said he was young?
I have just switched to Pet Plan for my 14 month old dog & although she has exclusions, they are only for a year from the last treatment for two things she saw the vet for - eye conditions & gastro intestinal conditions. I thought that was fair & they didn't affect the cost.
It's probably still worth you switching.SPC 8 (2015) #485 TOTAL: £334.65
SPC 9 (2016) #485 TOTAL £84
SPC 10 (2017) # 485 TOTAL: £464.80

He is six months.
Have been looking at John Lewis............ Will need to phone them as I ticked any medical problems even though the vet thinks it's just diet. My cat is a rescue so as eye trauma from being abused so will need to tell them about that. Would have been nice for the 10% online reduction.0 -
I've had my cat and dog insured with animal friends for the last 2 years. However, I have not needed to claim in this time. Having read some of the links above I have informed them I do not wish to renew. My dog is now 14 and my cat will be 8 this year. Can any one recommend a goof insurance company for my old boy? He has no existing medical conditions and on his last check -up the vet said he was in very good health for his age.

Can't decide between the £7,500 or the £12,000 vet fees with John Lewis. £30 per month or £36 for both the dog and cat. Cat indoor. I
Nervous now going to pay money each month for a policy that they might battle to stop paying out. Nightmare ! Never gave it much thought until that dog walker said last night.0
