I have deliberately left out details as I don't want trolls trawling thru auto trader to point out cars hundreds of miles away " described " as comparable to my car at the valuation esure have offered.

What I mean by "but" is, according to esure, I should be able to source a comparable replacement in the retail market "but" I cannot with 6 weeks of trying.

Ask ensure to point out where you can get a replacement, comparable car, for the price they are offering.

They may say that it is not for them to do this, but I would give it a try.

You seem to be suggesting there are cars available at £3K, just not locally?

If there are no comparable cars on the market anywhere within £1000 of what you're being bid, i dont think you'll have a problem. If its because theres just none avail locally, then thats different.

I tried that tactic, they simply said you "don't have that cover" despite the fact that is not available as an extra

    1. Are you seriously suggesting the trade value publishers are colluding with Insurers to keep prices low while I assume you are accusing the motor traders of pressurising them to keep the prices high.

    3. Assuming the delays are the Insurers mistake they may well agree to also pay you compensation and / or increase their valuation. Equally if the delays are your fault then the Insurer is not obliged

You seem to be a great chap for asking questions but answering none, being versed in interweb ways I shall indulge you one last time knowing you cannot let anyone have the last word.

    1. Given recent scandals that have come to light about financial institutions, PPI, interest rate fixing etc etc it would be stupid not to consider paid manipulation of published data as a possibility,
the point was is there really any need for a system that cannot possibly benefit the consumer.

    3. If I can't get them to pay a value that allows replacing of my car with a comparable model, what chance do I have of compo.

well that's part of the problem, I personally do not expect to be forced to travel too far, I have so far travelled a total of approx 1000 miles to view cars that either were very misrepresented or failed hpi checks etc, enough is enough, I have used all my friends goodwill on lifts etc.
My car is not rare in any way shape or form

You're accusing the trade guides of helping the Insurers which would mean they artificially publish low valuations on cars so the Insurers pay out less. You're also asserting they help the motor traders who would presumably want the guides to artificially inflate values so they increase their profit.

They can't please both of them at the same time.

So your problem is that the valuation is maybe about right, but not local to you? You can maybe see why the insurance company are reluctant to throw another £1,000 at it?

Have you not another thread going about buying a brand new / pre-reg car?

I'm not accusing anybody of anything, just saying it would be stupid to discount the possibility. As many people are aware its the presentation of data, would anyone dare accuse our own government of manipulating unemployment figures.
But enough digressions, can you help in regards to the OP?

I don't know about national prices, I'm assuming the other parties aren't out and out lying about prices.
I simply know that out of the many garages locally the nearest car I have found in comparable condition, slightly lower mileage but a year older is 1000 more than I have been offered and doing many comparisons this car appears to be priced at the going rate round here.

Yes I have that thread going, just curious about that, this is a place for discussing motoring related things after all

Oh great, Esure won't discuss this further as it's gone to the ombudsman, the adjudicator at the ombudsmans office has gone on holiday and the comparable car was sold over the weekend.
