  • To all of you who have replied thank you grately.

However I hope one day you wont be in a possition alike me. Lets hope that you dont encounter sonething like -
    A death in the family
    diagnosis of cancer or aids
a body part that breaks e.g leg or arm
    your house has burnt down
or a terror attack happens in the resort your going to.

And the Tour Operator turns around to you and says the wont refund you because they cant be bothered or some other unacceptable reason.

If that day it does happen I hope you remember this post and think why is the law not protecting customers.

I will not reply again as I feel very disappointed and feel as if no one cares. Thank you again for your words and your time. It saddens me that this is allowed by Tour Operators.

I've been to Sharm many times, admittedly the last being 3 years ago, but It's a place I've never felt unsafe in.
Never stayed within the hotel either as we were happy to wander the street markets in the evening and visit the local bars, many of which were British owned. At the time we went Quad biking in the Sinai Desert, though thats something I wouldn't risk now.

I wouldn't have an issue going there now tbh, but then I'm of the opinion that your just as likely to meet a terror attack in London as in Sharm.

Events like (some of) those you cite are usually covered by travel insurance. Other "events" don't actually make sense as I can't see why a diagnosis of Aids would preclude you from going on a holiday. My neighbour had to cancel two trips last year. The first because he had to have a tumour removed from behind his eye and was not allowed to fly for 3 months. The second was to attend his sister's funeral in New Jersey - he had a heart attack a few days before. He was reimbursed in full for both himself and his wife. You didn't suffer any illness or mishap, you changed your mind - no TO or insurance provider will reimburse you for that, quite rightly.

The TO didn't refuse a refund because they "couldn't be bothered" but because your reason for cancelling did not meet the criteria entitling you to one.

You said the holiday would have been in October. The plane was bombed on 31st October. Clearly your reasons for cancelling were nothing to do with the terror attack.

Comparing your disinclination to travel to cancer, death or AIDS is pretty disgraceful.

We have been to Sharm several times and never ever encountered any of what has been described here...
Plenty of Brits would still be visiting now if airlines were still flying into Sharm.
