I'm no fan of Egypt, but you don't go to Sharm to go out and about. If you're stupid enough to go off the beaten track then you're likely to hit problems, but that could apply equally to any big city - London, for instance

I think that there should never have been this policy to allow Holiday Tour Operators to with-hold money regardless of what reason a cancellation may have occured. Is it not in a sense criminal what Tour Operators do. So Ok Im going to put a good spin on this. So you go to a shop and you buy an item. This item has failled to match your expectations or you find some reasonable information such as it has become faulty. Would you expect the company retailer to say that the reason for returning is unnaceptable and therefore you can not get a refund. Imagine the outcry? A shop could be in serious trouble for breaking the rules of returnable goods.
So why can a Tour Operator who effectively is a retailer who sells holidays be allowed to not refund a holiday for any reason. And I will actually state here that on the BBC show Rip Off Britian a Tour Operator failed to award a refund because they could not justfy the death as a reasonble refundable option.0 -

You would have been entitled to a refund if the holiday was not as described. The great likelihood is that you would have gone away and encountered no problems at all. The only issue here is your misunderstanding and overreaction to the FCO advice. How many murders of British women in Sheikh have you found?0 -

I did ask about murders but well done, you've found one reported rape. "The Muslim Issue" reports three rapes in two years. How many rapes have been reported in your local town in the past two years?
Can you not understand that you have taken the FCO report entirely out of context? Rape/ murder etc are all unacceptable, but they happen everywhere. Sharm has no more of a problem than anywhere else.0 -

There are two different issues in your scenario here:
1) the item has failed to meet your expectations, or
2) it has become faulty.
If the goods fail to meet your expectations, you have no statutory right to a refund when buying in a shop.
If 'it has become faulty', then yes, there are protections and you probably could get a refund.
Now back to your holiday.
I suggest your holiday did not 'become faulty' rather, you decided it no longer met your expectations.
And since you have used the phrase 'there should be a law'... you need to speak to your MP about that.0
