  • I'm sorry if I'm missing something but I don't understand why you're thinking of wearing anything in bed if you're having hot flushes.
Good point. I wear the minimum. I suppose it's because it's easier to put on fresh nightclothes every night rather than change my bedding every night.
I was thinking about the fact that modern sports wear is designed to wick sweat away from the body and keep you cool and dry, which seems a good idea for night wear.
Also if I'm in the 'nuddie', every time I throw off the covers I will freeze once I've cooled down.
  • I can relate!

I have found it helpful to sometimes just have the empty duvet cover or even just a sheet over me, with something like a light fleece blanket to pull up when I am cold. Duvets were far too hot even in cold weather!
The cold hot water bottle does help too. Those cold gel headache pads on my forehead also seem to help moderate my temperature a bit.
    Good luck :-)

Been there, done that! I know what you mean about covers on, covers off ; my hubby said it was like sleeping in a wind tunnel!

A duvet is too much, just a sheet is not enough so I used to have a sheet over me and my dressing gown on top. That was light enough to push to one side as it wasn't too bulky and light enough to pull over me when I got cold.

I found just having a sheet over me when I was too hot worked, and wearing cotton, but the best advice I was given was to take black cohosh. I'm not sure if it's still available, but it helped me through the worst. Also I changed to soya milk, it's a bit of an acquired taste though.
Hope it doesn't last too long for you.:)

Cotton sheets and no duvet! I use a lightweight acrylic blanket, or 2 if it's a really chilly night.
    Cotton night clothes too
My duvet has been relegated to the cupboard for years now(despite having had one since they were rare in UK) as I can't cope with it- even in winter! I often have the fan running too. My temperature gauge has never returned to "normal" but that was the only problem I experienced so I think I got off lightly.

I do sympathise - menopause can be dreadful.

I was in the unfortunate position of having an early menopause at the start of a new relationship:eek:. That was 20 years ago, still together.

I was put on HRT for 10 years, that really helped as I got the occasional hot flush but nothing major.

I still get hot and cold though, I find 100% cotton bedding and nightdress helps a lot, if I get really hot I wrap myself in a sheet, feels nice. We also have silk duvets which are lightweight but keep you warm/cool as necessary.

I have a memory foam mattress & I've had the menopause.

HRT was what sorted mine out - almost instant relief.

A great site for those entering the menopause phase of their lives. A hellish time for some.
Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.

Ive been through the menopause, but I was so lucky that i missed it lol. Didnt even notice it.

Tod the doc and he said we will give you some HRT parches to protect your bones..... in the space of 3 months I had the dreaded hot flushes, a disgusting bad temper, and the dreaded monthlies.....
everything to do with the menopause.....
I stopped with the patches and was back to normal within a month.

I did notice that I have always, since then, suffered with 'hot legs' but i found a brilliant solution. I have a YANTRA mat that I put under my calves in bed for 20 minutes,,,, brilliant.; Google it ladies, they are brilliant, from restless legs to bad backs.... they work every time.

    Good luck....
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

Lol so glad I found this thread!!! You'll have to excuse me as I'm not in menopause mode just yet, but have had a heck of time over the last couple of years with sleep in the period week grrr! And then sleep in general living with yet another insomniac arrg!

Never even thought about a cold hot water bottle, awesome idea :j At the moment I am sleeping under a fleece just on my side, then the duvet and a cover over that, partner just has the duvet over him, and says that I'm freezing cold to touch when I go to bed. The fleece is awesome as it fits around me like a sleeping bag and gets rid of all the draughts - I can feel the tiniest of draughts that will stop me from getting to sleep and drive me insane!!

Through night in the period week, I'm then waking up boiling hot and chucking the fleece out the bed lol!! Then throwing off the duvet and hanging a leg out the bed............then freezing cold again and wrapping myself up snug AGAIN....and so on :o:o

Oh wow this sounds awesome!!! I get really annoying achy kind of dead legs at night, especially lower leg, drives me mad and am always trying to stretch them out to quell it. They get hot too and have to hang them out the bed or duvet lol - this could also be an answer!! :j:j
