Friday Feb 26th - what small DFW things will you be doing today?

  • Good morning everyone....

Well let's just say, I am so happy it's the weekend. However DS2 has been a nightmare. I went to bed at 10pm and as soon as I got into bed, the crying began and it carried on all the way through to 6.45am this morning  I had to sleep with him on me and even then he wouldn't stop, refused milk and when I finally settled, as soon as I put him down, it started all over again. I have literally had about 2 hours sleep! And the little monster decides at 7am when I have to get up that he will now settle alone and sleep :naughty:

    - school run done
    - popped to mums so free breakfast
    - nursery run with DD
    - check banking and final bills to be paid
    - minimal shopping list for tomorrow and meal plan for next week. OHs parents are going to get us some nappies :)
    - school run
    - Amazon voucher should arrive within 48 hours so will keep a look out. Bulk buy some wipes and small gifts for mums
    - wash at 30 degrees
    - meals from stores
    - sleep (hopefully)

Hope you all have a lovely day.

Got my Amazon voucher just now after taking your advice about FB. Sent a private message of complaint and a day later, voucher received!

With regards to quidco, my order was 12th Jan and tracked same day. Said payment up to 3 months so is it still worth chasing or too early?

  • As some of you know, I am planning on starting a DMP in a couple of months whilst I save for an EF. However, my biggest creditor has hounded me despite my letters saying I am working with SC. In the most recent letter they state they are coming to my house within 28 days to assess the situation and resolve the issue. I am now freaking out :(:(:(:(

make the change - That sounds scary & unhelpful, especially if you have put in writing that you are dealing with Stepchange. I don't have any experience of bailiffs/creditor visits, but there will be plenty of people on the DFW forums who know about these things - people like Sourcrates, who seems encyclopedic on such issues. It may be worth you starting a separate thread, as people in the know will be able to advise you as to what 'visiting creditors' can & can't do. That subject has come up quite a few times. It may help you to know exactly what these people can & cannot legally do.
Try not to worry too much. You have decided on putting things right via a DMP with Stepchange. It's not like you have got your head in the sand regarding paying debts off.

    Afternoon Campers,
Oh........3pm, & I've only just finished my Big Budget & all that it entails. There have been money saving efforts as follows:
*Reconciled February's budget. We went over on groceries but only by around £4. We managed not to touch the sum I left in the account to cover annual car insurance renewal. I budgeted this to go out in Feb, as insurance runs out 23rd, & last year, they'd taken the money barely before I'd put the phone down. This year, they are not taking it till 29th, which is technically part of my March budget. The Old Me would have spent it. The Reformed Me left it in our account so as not to have to begin March £196 down.
*Set March's budget. Flagged up variables - i.e MOT soon. There is £200 in our Car Piggy which will pay for small run of the mill jobs. If there aren't any, then I'll also use some of it to pay for 6 mths car tax, also due. But MOTs are unknowns, aren't they? I shan't allocate any of that cash until I know the exact size of the bill.
*Wrote up new grocery budget sheet for the month. It lives in the front of my filofax & I use it to record all grocery spends to keep us on track. I've been top-slicing £50 from grocery budget most months to pay into Car Fund. Have not done this for March, as there will be a few Easter Celebration expenses. No point being unrealistic, then going over-budget & getting cross with myself.
*Worked out cash amounts for paying into our Savings Piggies this month. Halved Clothes Piggy amount, as we don't need anything, but I still want to trickle a bit of money in so that there's some available when one of needs shoes or a bigger item than frillies (me, not him, lol!)
*Transferred £100 to our Car Fund.
*I had £13 of my February Personal Spends left, so have put £10 in my secret little tin ready for when I might need it.
*Oddments of shrapnel paid into coppers tin.
*Did a couple of surveys. Toluna said there were no surveys for me. Being naturally suspicious, I attempted one anyway, got through to the end & got the points.
*Postman brought a £5 John Lewis voucher earned from my credit card points, & £5 cash earned by mr f from filling in a big survey from Kantar Media. Voucher added to stash (£80 now) & the fiver from Kantar paid into Car Fund.
*mr f volunteered to call in at Aldi on his way home to get the grocery shopping. It saves making a separate journey & frees our time up for the weekend.
*Had a 'use-it-up' lunch - think the yoghurt might have been a bit older than I'd have liked, but so far, I'm still conscious :-)
*Read energy meters & submitted readings online.
*Wrote a letter of complaint to energy provider about unresolved issue. Assertiveness Level 3. If I don't get a resolution with this one, I'll eat a bowl of sprouts with a Whiskas topping! It's a bloody good letter, tho I say so myself ;-)
*Did 7 supermarket feedback prize draw survey thingies. Why haven't I won? I demand to win. Imagine £500 to spend at Waitrose. Fantasy grocery shopping!
*Big filing session, especially important info, like replacing old insurance policy docs with the enw ones, etc.
*Make a new little CC-sized card with breakdown company's contact details on it, for keeping in our car. I was just cutting up the covering letter which came with my policy renewal, then I saw the emergency contact number, & I thought I'd just check to make sure we have the right one. Nope! It has changed, & I don't recall ever being informed of that. Never mind, I will make sure the new no is in the car. Imagine......sitting by the car at the side of the road in the middle of nowhere dying for a wee & you can't even get through to the people you pay to rescue you! Potential problem averted!
*Cancel Find My Past subscription. Have made enormous inroads into my family tree, & no longer need to be paying 2 subscriptions. That's a little bit extra that can go to the Car Fund as from April.
*Make a picnic for our outing tomorrow. Must remember to find instructions for new pedometer, as I can't even see how to zero it! Intend to do some steps tomorrow, not just go somewhere nice & eat scones & drink coffee.
*No downstairs heating on yet. Will put on later. I don't like heating rooms when I'm not using them.
*Sew up the remaining one of my completed little cats & knit some more. There are 14 of them now. They look so funny all sitting in a row on the bookcase. It feels great to be using up some of my stash/upcycling, instead of hitting the wool shops to buy more.
    *Read library book.
*Nobble mr f tonight, just to update him on how our March budget is looking, where the pressure points are, how we can get a bit more into the Car Fund, possible contingency plans for if the MOT is bad news, etc. I manage all the financial stuff, but we always make decisions together & talk about it.
*Final use of old mascara this morning. Yes, it had its last dunk in a mug of hot water, said a last goodbye to the foxgloves lashes & went in the bin. Got a new one out of my stash (free on a magazine).
OK, that's today's efforts. My Big Budget Day does take up a long time, but I always feel better when it's done. How on EARTH did I spend so many years of my life (from age 19 to 46!!) living in permanent overdraft, borrowing, buying whatever I wanted, never budgeting, etc? I hope I will never return to those naughty spendy decades. I don't think I will, because I think I've come too far now.
Have a lovely Friday evening, Frugal friends,
