Hi all
I looking at obtaining or buying a greenhouse or polytunnel for my allotment, the only thing being is that money is in short supply at the moment, so a new one out of the question. I've only had the allotment since Dec 07, and have little knowledge of gardening. I have seen this polytunnel advertised and need some advise as to weither or not to buy know or wait until a cheap 2nd hand polytunnel / greenhouse becomes available.
Any help or suggestions would be great.
Thanks

Have you tried posting a 'wanted' on freecycle. I often see people getting rid of greenhouses. In fact I just got one myself from a friend who moved into a house and didn't want the greenhouse. He was going to put it on freecycle, but I managed to catch him before!0

they have some really cheap stuff on the wilkinsons site starting at a 5er for pollytunnels and mini greenhouses.0

I've seen a few good deals around recently:
Wilkinsons and Aldi are currently selling 3/4 tier plastic greenhouses for £12.99.
B&Q are selling plastic polytunnel type things for £8.
I would also recommend freecycle as I've had loads for my allotment.
I guess it just depends on your needs as to size etc but you could always make one as suggested. I saw a photo yesterday of a shed made entirely of disused pallets!!

LBS Horticulture (Google) sell polytunnel plastic by the metre in various grades. After obtaining that, it's all down to your own design/build capabilities, but you'll be more likely get something that suits your own needs. Main thing to appreciate is the need to stop whatever you make from flying! Polytunnel edges are buried or nailed to a structure that's fixed to the ground. It isn't so easy to bury all edges of cloches, small frames etc because you need to get at the stuff inside.
It is hard to work out what is good value for someone else. My own frame of 25' x 6' cost about £125, but it has lasted around 7 years and only the plastic now needs replacing - the frame is tanalised & will go on indefinitely. I find galvanised roofing felt nails good for polythene, as they don't rust.0 -
Hi i am desperately trying to find a cheap cheap polytunnel for my dad's allotment. Any help is welcome! :j

Best I've seen are on Ebay, just type polytunnel in to the search
I guess they aren't the greatest quality, but for the amateur I would say they would be OK, I'm planning on getting one myself.
If you are a bit more adventurous, there are also plans for making them available - just search polytunnel plans on google, many are free.Unsecured debt 2008 c £45,000
