It's true, the chances of encountering malaria in most of Thailand is insignificant, the cost and possible side effects of tablets is unnecessary. Dengue fever can sometimes be going around, even in urban areas, but there is no protection apart from avoiding being bitten by the Aedes aegypti mosquito, the one with the stripy legs.

Do you have a Savers near you? I went in today for some other items and picked up two cans of Jungle Formula Maximum spray (150ml) for £3.49 each for our trip to Costa Rica in a few weeks time. The last time I checked in Boots they were £9.99 each.

Deet is horrible stuff but it's brilliant for keeping mozzies away. I get eaten alive usually, but with deet I didn't get a single bite!
