Take it from someone who has lived in Kenya and the Philippines and who mozzies love to bite - get Off, it's the best one. Another deterrent is Brewers yeast and lots of garlic - mozzies hate them.

Saw an experiment using those recently, they were found to prefer people with those two things.

People often forget about their head, feet and hands when it comes to deet.

We used to go to Malaysia a lot, a friend once came with us who refused to use deet and had a herbal remedy from a health food shop, he ended up looking like one huge mossie bite.

I buy my malaria tablets in country, much much cheaper.

I am travelling to Thailand in April and am considering getting some Mosquito repellent

i have seen it in Pound land both sprays and wipes and also in supermarkets like Asda from £5 & up

would a cheaper one work just as well as a more expensive one

You can buy it on arrival. In every 'convenience store' and supermarket. You can even buy a packet of two DEET wipes for 5 baht. Similarly creams for 5 baht(10p).

    Personally I use:

as I have baby soft skin,

    99 baht for 100ml. I don't like DEET.

Deet also dissolves plastics so wash your hands after applying it.

I ended up with the lining of my sandals stuck to my foot because I didn't wait for the spray to dry, it was pretty painful to get the shoe off. I won't make that mistake again

I use Jungle Formula Maximum when we go to the caribbean with Avon Skin So Soft over the top as it smells nicer.
  • Don't rely on Avon Skin so Soft, it doesn't work for everyone as doesn't work for either of us.
Boots grey bottle repellent is good, 50% deet and usually on a buy one get one half price deal or something

  • Speaking as someone who is incredibly attractive to mozzies, my advice would be to top up regularly. When I go to Europe I use Boots own or equivalent and when I go to tropical countries I use Deet (but it's horrible stuff, leaves an oily residue on the skin), but I've found that unless I apply two or three times from about 4pm I still get bitten.

I've found that heating a teaspoon in very hot water, drying and touching it to the bite several times stops the itching for a good few hours.

OK use spray but as mentioned above don't forget your anti malaria tablets which must be started a few weeks before you leave home and continued for a few weeks after you return iirc.
It's your money. Except if it's the governments.

Not necessary, especially if not going off the beaten track. The OP doesn't strike me as an intrepid explorer.
    Forget about the malaria tablets.

Just use an after-bite cream or balm. Saves all that hot spoon palaver....especially if no hot water around. :)

Alternatively the local Golden Cup balm just five baht from most pharmacies.

That's because it's not a repellent. So soft simply forms an oily barrier between the skin and whatever wants to penetrate the skin. If you haven't applied the so soft to any particular area of skin then there's a good chance you might get bitten there.
