My son and ex still havent been told about Quorn mince and raved about it! I think as another poster said it is better the second day and it does need good seasoning and sufficient liquid. A glug of wine doesnt go amiss either...........!

Giving this to people without their prior knowledge is not a good idea. Some people, including my wife, are seriously and some others potentially life-threateningly allergic to mycoprotein.
If you fold it in half, will an Audi A4 fit in a Citroen C5? :)
  • I was going to say same as last poster, quite a few people 'react' to quorn. So introduce it gradually to make sure no-one is going to be allergic or even just severly windy and uncomfortable.

If no-one notices then go ahead and add more and more .

they are more likely to NOT have a reaction to it.. and if they do have a reaction it is possible to say .. well it could have been this.. I have a reaction to garlic.. of all things eh!? .. yet people poison me with it all the time.. if you left out everything that someone might have a reaction to you'd all have empty plates!

Thanks going to try half and half 1st and maybe just bulk out the mince with quorn - the hubby and I have been together 14 years - I'm sure he will live he has had quorn before but said it was awful - think he just said it as he doesn't eat that 'veggie rubbish'

  • I find another way to cut down on how much meat I use is by adding red lentils to it, as it really pads it out. Although I've never done it, some people say grating carrot into mince dishes works well too. I'm quite lucky though, my husband will pretty much eat what's in front of him as long as it is edible!

I add lentils, grated carrot and for bolognaise/lasagne I also add grated courgette .. sometimes a few minced mushrooms (OH hates them) or minced pepper (I hate them!) definitely more veg than meat going on there!

We used Quorn for the first time recently but we had a cottage pie with 50/50 quorn/mince. Have to say, seemed exactly the same as usual to me and, more importantly, my daughter didn't notice either.

Although I'm the only one in the family who doesn't eat meat, when we have chilli or spag bol, we use Quorn mince. The meat eaters seem to like it (or at least, think it's ok!).

It doesn't taste like how I remember beef mince tasting, so you could perhaps add a beef stock cube to give it that meaty flavour.
