Evening,
I've never used quorn mince before and bought some on offer to try, my husband won't entertain the idea of quorn mince but my friend says when she makes a spaghetti bol with it no one knows it's not mince so I'm going to try this theory and see if I can get us having a meat free spag bol and how do I cook with it and can I freeze the meals I make or not.
All tips and ideas would be a huge help as I've not used it before and would love to start making meals with it.
Thanks xx

I use it just like normal mince just cut out the browning stage. Have added link to Quorn website with lots of uses for Quorn mince.

you could try adding a bit first, see if he notices0

I wasn't going to tell him and just see if he notices but I'm worried I'll make it wrong and he will guess straight away!
I'm just trying to cut down on the amount of meat we buy and use as it's a huge chunk of our shopping budget, I've already reduced the amount we use in our meat and padded our meals to get extra portions that we can freeze and he hasn't noticed either!
Spaghetti bol is one of our family favourite meals and I'd love to just be able to replace it with quorn and have him not know until he has been eating it for a while.Living the simple life0 -
We had quorn mince cottage pie the other night. It had to be heavily seasoned, plenty of Worcestershire sauce etc. Inedible. Won't be having that again. I prefer Linda McCartney sausages for a meat free meal.0

I've been using veggie mince for years (cheaper than Quorn). Literally just use it as you would normal mince.
I do find that it tastes better a day later.
My spag bol is cube of frozen garlic, chopped onion and quorn together in the pan for till onion has soften. Then I add chopped peppers, chopped tomatoes, jar of passata, basil, worcester sauce and salt & pepper to taste.
Sometimes I make it in my slow cooker and then I just add all the raw ingredients together, go off to work and return home to it!
It's great in Chilli too.
I served it to my BIL in lasagne and he didn't know he wasn't eating meat!!~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

I used half Quorn and half mince when I first introduced my family to Quorn. I didn't tell them and they never noticed. Gradually started to reduce the meat content and now our bolognese is all QuornGrocery Challenge - Sept £205.56/£350.000

I like it (I'm a part-time
vegetarian). Mrs. Sleazy who is a confirmed major carnivore also likes it. I cook it much as with 'normal' mince - probably longer than recommended on the packet.

Goodness this takes me back about 30 years when I gave hubby my veggie mince from the freezer by mistake. I confessed after he had eaten it and said how good it was, so was told just to do veggie mince in spag bol and chilli dishes to save making two versions, as he didn't know the difference.
My advice is to stick to what you normally do as in your meat version, make up the sauce with the same ingredients, and add the quorn mince last. Less chance of your husband noticing if you stick with what you are already doing, than by adopting another recipe completely.
Once cooked and cooled, it is perfectly safe to freeze.
If it's a success, you might want to look at the supermarket vegetarian mince, as it may be cheaper. I'm a bit out touch with what's available in the UK these days, but know that Asda had their own veggie mince in the freezer section last summer.0
