The devil will be in the detail - "automatic compensation for any loss of or reduction in service" sounds like an aspiration rather than a promise of what will come. I remember a multiple-day power cut; under the new plan would I have received compensation for no broadband?

I'm wondering if this also covers Virgin; my mother would probably never have another bill to pay again! (She'd move but there are no other BB suppliers apart from Virgin to where she lives).

...can you imagine the arguments with an Indian call centre over missing compensation for reduction in service ???

Oooh that is really going to hurt BT

As BT is the actual supplier of the majority of ADSL/VDSLservice and exchange equipment * then I see ISPs paying the consumer compensation and then chasing BT for the money that they have had to shell out due to BT's failure of the infrastructure.

    * The majority of ISPs use BT infrastructure for their product. Even the LLU providers such as Sky and TalkTalk use BT's 'last mile' in most cases
  • I lost broadband for 11 weeks last year and BT had no shows for 2 of their agreed visits to my home. They offered me £10 compensation for each no show. I took them to County Court and won £50 for each no show. Based on £10 per hour for each 8am - 1pm missed appointment. I was also awarded £50 costs.

No to compensation. What we really should have is a guaranteed switch as with bank current accounts. I was given a switch date which was 3 weeks away, that date has been and gone and I still havent switched! Right now as far as I can see I'm being double billed and the next payment by direct debit is due tomorrow.
