Mobile mechanic won't supply a receipt?

Hi guys, just wondering whether anyone knew my legal standing here.
I had a mobile mechanic carry out some work on my car. He said he would sort me a receipt out. I've now had to ask 8 times over the last 3 months and he keeps coming up with excuse after excuse.
Does he have to give me a receipt? I was under the impression that he did considering I have requested one from him

How did you pay? If you have paid on card you can use your bank statement as a receipt I believe0

I did pay by card but I think I might need a full itemised receipt. Long story short I've been sold a lemon of a used car on finance. Cost £1800 in repairs in the first 5 months of owning it, and my finance company agree that I should be compensated, but they would like to see the receipts for all the repairs. Hopefully my statement will do but knowing my bum luck they'll want the whole receipt0

Legally he only has to provide you with a receipt if he is VAT registered and you ask for a VAT receipt, he has 30 days to produce it.
If he doesn't play ball just use the card receipt and try your best to list what was replaced. Make a note of the mechanics details on the list so they at least have a point of contact if needed.0 -
he should give you an itemised receipt as any jobs done are covered by new consumer legislation advice him he has 7 days to deliver this receipt or citizens advice will be involved, did you by any chance find him via facepalm? theres a lot of chancers round my way on there purporting to be car fixers0

As you appear to know, can you provide guidance on where this requirement lies and what the toothless CAB can do about a lack? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Where do you get this from? What legislation?0 -

It seems from this thread that the OP has only just decided that an itemised receipt would be a better idea - definitely too late for that, no chance of stretching S50 to 3 months after conclusion of the contract.
All he needs to supply is a scrap of paper with
'Work on car £xxx
Paid'
It meets the requirement of a receipt. Only a fool would try to take a case through MCOL to get thatThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

If you said you would require a receipt before he carried out the work and before you paid him then that requirement (to provide a receipt) forms part of the contract.
If you did request a receipt from him prior to the work being undertaken and paid, then I would tell him both on the phone and by letter that if he does not provide this receipt and your claim from the finance company is declined as a result then you will sue him to recover your losses. I would explain to him that this could lead to him being liable to refund the full payment to you (all for his failure to provide a receipt).
Also, regardless of whether or not the requirement to produce a receipt forms part of the contract, I would explain that if he does not provide a receipt then the finance company may get in touch with him to confirm the work done, which might actually involve him in more work in the long run.0
