I've seen it happen in the travel sector too on package holiday prices. Going via a cashback site the holidays are more expensive by an amount that equals the cashback, funny that, but of course can't be a scam can it.

You really are a cynical person. A scam is when you are being robbed or cheated out of what you have been promised. I have NEVER had any problems with cashback sites because I follow the advice they give, one of which is to clear your cookies.
Would I really become £5000 better off if they were a scam... T*****t. xx

Do cashback sites not offer you, well cashback? If the prices you get quoted are artificially inflated then you aren't actually getting any cash back at all. Hence scam.

I don't know if you can understand plain English. You keep repeating the same thing.
My point is that I get the cashback and the quotes on the cashback site are always the same as the actual insurers website, so how are they inflated.
I get the insurance at the same price as the insurer is charging and also get the cashback.
One year I got a quote on TSB of £139 for my buildings and contents insurance and then went through quidco where I got the same quote of £139 and got £120 cashback as well....how the **** is that a scam?

The scam is as per the OP, I, and Mr K have all painstakingly explained. If it worked for you then whoopee do, but there are some instances where cashback is not actually cashback because the price is somehow artificially inflated when one uses a cashback site.

It has happened to me a few times, though I didn't call it a scam. I took screenshots as someone else suggested but didn't really get a proper response from quidco. One was a car insurance, one an annual travel insurance and one was a holiday. One each occasion I had used a totally different device as I'm a bit paranoid about purchases not tracking due to cookies etc.

That said, I'm still happy with the 3.5k I've had over the years and personally find quidco better than tcb :T.

The £139 insurance £120 cashback days are over I think though :(.

My point is that I have NEVER had a different quote through a cashback site than through the actual retailer so it makes me think that people are not following all the advice given on cashbacks to ensure a successful outcome.

I can see where there might be some difference between cashback sites and comparison sites but I tend to stay away from comparison sites due to errors occurring when crossing over details.

To prove the point get 3 quotes , one direct to the retailer, one to the retailer via cashback site and one via comparison site making sure to follow the link to the retailer site and check their price again after correcting the requested cover and any errors that usually occur due to the difference between the way questions are worded on the comparison site and the way they are worded on the retailer site.

I have followed the advice to a T, and done the 3 quotes as you suggested. Still had the differences. However, it's been on only a very few occasions - I assume a combination of quidco's own checks and reported anomalies keeps the companies in check. Nice little £50 hit the bank yesterday from an Expedia trip that was exactly the same :T.

It may happen with some retailers but it still p***** me off when people shout "it's a scam", if I did encounter it I just wouldn't complete the transaction and use a different retailer.
I am totally happy with the £5000+ cashback I have made over the last five years.
The only downside is that now everyone seems to be using them the levels of cashback have really fallen.

Theres still an occasional few good deals around... Last year I got buildings and contents for £111 and then £84 cashback making £27 for the year, this year it was £121 with £31 cashback and £75 of marks and spencer vouchers making it £15 for the year.

    As an example:

Try getting a RAC quote for Personal breakdown cover. If you include Roadside Rescue, Recovery & At Home Rescue, you will get Home Rescue free - setting the price to £99.98.

If you do the same quote, through QuidCo or TopCashBack, the total price will be £129.98 - no free Home Rescue.

Doing it through QC will still some money, just not as much as they suggest.
