Changing from Orange/EE to life mobile I have a iPhone 5

I called orange/EE to ask for my pack number they could not match the £6 deal from life mobile, then I thought will the sim work, so I called the Apple shop who said the phone is locked he advised me to call orange back and ask them to unlock it I spoke to a lady again at orange she said there is a charge of £ 8.99 the charge is made by Apple would this be correct.

Just wonderering if she said that hoping I would say forget it I will stay with orange....

Whether Apple charge EE or not, makes no difference. EE can charge you whatever they want and charged much more not long time ago.

Life runs on EE so it shouldn't need unlocking at all.
