Oil delivered above my request

So i know there is little to no regulation to these oil companies!!

But ive just had my first "Overorder" where i ordered 500 litres and paid (through a syndicate) so didnt know who was to deliver (first mistake!)

Ive got home to the delivery note which says 600 litres invoice to follow. I dont want 600 litres! I specifically want 500 litres, this is why i asked for 500 litres!

Does anyone have experience with this, is it a common oil rip off?! Now im lucky, as lets face it, its about 20quid! But still that isnt the point!

The office is closed so i cant call today, just wondered where i stand when they start asking for thier money!

Thanks

Its not a rip off as such. You are getting exactly what you are going to pay for, admittedly not what you asked for but still,

Next time, if you want 500, then ask for 400, they might just deliver 500 lol.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.

Is it the syndicate that have made a mistake or the oil company?

There have been loads of posts on this issue in the past and as stated in Post#2 it appears that the oil delivery company can take it back(assuming their mistake); although would they bother for £20??

Who did you place the order with? I assume the syndicate.
How did you place it? Phone? Email? Online?
Did you get any written confirmation of your order? Letter? Email?

My own syndicate has a webpage you log into and place your order, which you can then check and see at any time. So you now clearly what you ordered, at what price, on what date, for delivery on what date etc.

Other syndicates work in different ways.

Assuming you can clearly show you ordered 500 litres, then that is what you should pay for. At the same time, contact the syndicate and the supplier so they know what's going on, explaining why you are paying less than billed, and enclosing a copy /screen page/ whatever of your order.

Tell the supplier to contact you to arrange collection of the over-delivered amount.

Or pay the £20 extra and have an easy life.............

    Hi all.

Correct, my term rip off was wrong. It's just not what I would say is good practice.

Its a syndicate I have several forms saying 500 and emails as proof it's all done online. The delivery note had 500 printed then someone scribbled over it and put the new figure!

I haven't contacted them. I've paid already and they have taken the amount I agreed. I might let them chase me and see what happens. I'll ask for them to collect if I'm in a bad mood when they call/email! Or pay as let's face it.. It's the easy option and I'm going use it!

Guess that's the risk of a syndicate. Thanks for the advice I will email the syndicate.
  • If original ticket said 500 litre's then it's down to driver error. It happens to every driver. Misread amount or typed into computer wrong I would imagine. No need to get so excited about it really thou. Me personally would just wait & see if they get back to you.
if i had known then what i know now

It's othing to do with using a syndicate, so stop blaming them!

Sounds like driver error, or perhaps the instructions to the driver from his boss. A lot of orders are 'to fill' with an estimate of the amount of oil needed and he/the office may have thought that was it.

By all means get quotes direct from suppliers next time, but don't be put off syndicates. Or maybe try a different one next time. I have 4 I'm registered with, though the same one seems to always offer the best price.
  • at the price it is at just now i would be cramming every litre i could into the tank

Me too. A piddling 100litre discrepancy may be a favour in the long term.

I had 1500l top-up the other day. No more would fit, unfortunately.....my trusty 'bit of stick' was 100litres out! :rotfl:
