The Spanish Santander ATMs have been free for sometime.ratechaser wrote: »aha, I stand very corrected. Wonder if that's a recent change for Spain, as the foreign ATM benefit was specifically touted as a Select benefit in the past...This is a system account and does not represent a real person. and how prevalent are Santander cash machines in Spain?
They do not have the monopoly and you'd probably have to travel to the 'city' part to blooody find one anyway.
OP get a pre-paid card for all ATMS and/or a CC for overseas.0 -

That was my next question :rotfl:If you change nothing, nothing will change!!0 -
From practical experience in Spain (including Canary Islands), I have needed to go to an ATM at a branch of Santander Bank as I have not found any stand-alone Santander machines ( this is actually at holdiday resorts and not large cities which might be better). The machines in the wall at the bank haven't actually been labelled as Santander either but have worked both with standard and gold 1-2-3 debit cards. Even the gold card doesn't work for free in non-Santander machines.
In other European countries you have to have gold select card to get free withdrawals and still need a Santander machine.0 -

That would depend where you are... While I haven't tracked their locations given I can use any ATM, every trip I've made to Spain I've walked past Santander branches on numerous occasions. It's not a monopoly, but they're Spain's biggest bank.0 -
Also Norwich & Peterborough offer a gold account (£500 in every month account conditions) that gives you free withdrawals everywhere!!!...But be wary that some machines will charge you, like the ones you find in newsagents in the UK0
