I have Now tv on my smart tv, I will have to try adding then removing a card.
I think now tv on a smart tv is just the 'now' part ie the part you have to pay for. I think it is only the now tv boxes that you can get the free to view catch on channels on (which you get on a smart tv anyway) so I don't see the point in activating it, if you are not interested in the subscription part of it.0 -
As the subject has changed from iplayer on a 4K Sony, to iplayer via NowTV I'll chuck in another option; Chromecast plugs in neatly behind the TV and, with an Android phone, gives remote control access to, for example, NowTV (includes iplayer as discussed), Netflix, BT Sports. If you put your general location in your Profile, somebody here may be able to come and help you.0

I'd love to know what model of 4K TV has already lost iPlayer support! Are other catch up services working? If you want more help, tell us the model, not just the brand, of your TV.0

My Sony TV lost iPlayer and most of its other apps after a firmware upgrade. Needed a factory reset: tedious, but everything worked afterwards.0

Amazon Fire Stick with Kodi connected to the TV works very well. No problems with BBC iplayer on it. Also due to recent Amazon update all the main catch up channels are now available for the fire stick.0 -

I have had the exact same problem with my toshiba smart tv. I tried everything I could think of finding the solution was to simply depower the tv. Just turning it off did not do the trick, I had to unplug it from the mains for a few minutes before plugging it back in.
I don't know if this will be of any help for a sony tv but it works everytime my television's iplayer goes on the blink(which happens too many times for my liking)0
