BBC Iplayer suddenly wont work on Sony smart TV

I have a Sony TV - a smart TV the 4K ones.
Suddenly over the last fortnight Iplayer doesn't work, I try and watch a programme (any programme) and the circle twirls for a while and I get a message stating there is a technical fault.
It works Ok on the ipad and other tablets in the house
Am I guessing that the BBC or Sony have changed something making them non-compatible?

Very annoying as I need to watch the Last War and Peace episode and it's going to disappear before long.
May have to watch it on the tablet I suppose.

Anyone else having this issue, or got any ideas please?

Check the wifi setup instructions. (assuming it connects via wifi rather than cable).

  • Possibility that iplayer may have been updated and that version no longer works.

To be honest adding one of those Nowtv boxes that you can get in Tesco is a far better option, and have a far better GUI, you can see it much easier.

    Try 'Settings'

    'Network'

    'Refresh Internet content'

Just to add - we have a free sat box as well as the smart TV. i may just have to connect that to the internet and use it that way. Bit of a palaver just for iplayer esp if its a temp problem, but there you go

Check if your model is listed as iPlayer certified?
    http://iplayerhelp.external.bbc.co.uk/tv/Sony

Check with Sony Community / Support https://community.sony.co.uk/t5/english-community/ct-p/en

Let the BBC iPlayer team know (with precise TV model number and a note of your ISP provider for diagnostic purposes). Only after having looked and searched their help section for similar issues (they may be aware of a problem?)... http://iplayerhelp.external.bbc.co.uk/tv/connected/freeview/help/contact

A Now TV box needs an account that has to have a payment card attached, a KODI box would be another option.

My now tv doesn't have a payment card attached. I can't remember if I set it up without a card or if I had to go into my account afterwards to remove it.

Now tv is much more user friendly than a KODI box you can't really compare the two. I have a KODI box but still use now tv for ease of use, for the free to view catch up channels.
