Aviva won't mark car insurance policy as settled 20 months later

Hi MSE'ers!

I had a car insurance policy with Aviva that ended in May 2014, however this is still showing as an open agreement on my Noddle credit report (see attachment).

I've had contact with Aviva, who said it has to stay on my report for 7 years (which I'm not disputing), however, they're refusing to mark it as closed/settled.

I've been driving since 2007, and had several car insurance policies, yet these are the only ones showing on my report - my current car insurance monthly payments with another company don't show on there (or my experian report), so not sure why an old Aviva one will.

I've written to Aviva and got a snotty reply back stating "You would need to send proof that Aviva is still showing up on
your credit report and that this is causing a detriment to your credit rating.
An email or letter from your credit reference agency advising the above would suffice
."

What's my next steps here? this is factually incorrect having an open agreement on my account, saying I've been making monthly payments every month, but it seems Aviva won't mark it as closed/settled, even though they admit I don't owe them a penny?

    Hi there,

I would suggest that you check the other 2 credit files (Experian and Equifax) just to see if they are all reporting the same. Then take a photocopy of your credit file(s) and a copy of the letter/emailing from Aviva confirming no money is owed and then, send it all back to Aviva as a complaint.

Make is clear that the account is showing in an incorrect state and you want it corrected (whether it is causing damage to your file or not is irrelevant). Make it clear that if they won't correct this then you will escalate the matter to the Financial Ombudsman Service and the Information Commissioner. Good luck,

Does it show you owe them money? Does it state a balance outstanding? Late payments? Default?
If not, what is your problem.
  • No, i don't owe them a penny, but its showing as an open credit agreement, which I don't have with them.
