Certified Documents - Croydon

I am in the process of switching banks to first direct, and as had been noted by many people here, there is quite a strict process in place regarding sending off certified copies of identification documents.

Does anyone know of any free (or at least cheap-ish) notary services around, particularly in Croydon (working hours) or East London (after hours)?

Alternatively has anyone had any luck rocking up to a pharmacist and getting them to certify?

The allowable personnel are:
ASolicitor, Lawyer, Licenced Conveyancer, Barrister, Commissioner For Oaths, Chartered Legal Executive, Notary, Chartered Accountant, Member of Parliament, Member of the Judiciary, Independent Financial Advisor, Dentist, Medical Doctor, Nurse, Optician and Pharmacist.

Failing which, why not call your dentist and GP and ask them if they would be willing to do it (should be free).

Avoid notaries - they will rob you. A solicitor is likely to be much cheaper.

I think you'll struggle to find someone to carry out this pointless exercise for free. The list of acceptable signatories just shows how institutionally thick First Direct/HSBC are; it includes member of parliament :rotfl:


Why do people put up with this boloney from FD? Surely other banks offer a good deal on switching without all this unnecessary hassle?

I think it's obvious.
£150 bonus covers the certification.
Then people either stay to take advantage of 6% regular saver or keep switching.
