Fraudulent Defaults

Options
I hope I can find some help here.

About 10 years ago my parents were getting credit in my name, I ended up with a really bad credit rating and have spent the last 4 years trying to build it back up again (with moderate success!) I haven't checked my credit rating for a few months and decided to try the 'clears core' free credit check as suggested by my husband. It seemed a little low so I did a little more digging into my profile and it turns out ANOTHER member of my 'family' has taken out a contract of some kind with Talktalk (July 2015) and hasn't paid it and there is now a negative mark against my name for arrears for over £500!!

How can I dispute this and have this removed from my credit file? I am also more concerned as now me sand my husband are financially linked I don't want it to affect his rating either. Can anyone help???

You need to report it to Talktalk as a fraudulent account. They will expect you to contact the police or Actionfraud and report it.

So basically unless you are prepared to report your relative you have very little chance of getting anywhere.

It would also help disassociating from your husband - as he will find it difficult to get credit while this is ongoing.

    Hello OP.

I'm sorry to hear certain members of your family have taken it upon themselves to obtain credit in your name before trashing your history.

As you are unfortunately a victim of Identity Theft I would contact Action Fraud: http://www.actionfraud.police.uk

It's totally and utterly up to you but I would seriously think about reporting this person to the police, too.

I assume you've been in contact with Talk Talk about the fraudulent account/debt too?
It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.

If you have any joint accounts with your husband such as bank account, mortgage etc. then you cannot just financially disassociate yourself from him, not until you close those accounts.

Regarding the debt, the only way to get rid of it is to contact the police and report it as ID theft/fraud, get the crime reference number and then contact Talk Talk and get them to remove the account from your credit reports.

You should also check Noddle.co.uk (Call Credit) and pay £2 to Experian to get the complete picture of all 3 credit files, just in case there are any other nasties reported to the other 2 agencies.
