Shocking bill from EE

Options
Hi,

Have just logged in to my business account to find I have been charged £233 instead of the usual £15.99 this month. The reason for this is that I have used 400 minutes over my monthly allowance.

Two months ago I upgraded the account from a pre-pay service to a pay monthly. With pre-pay I always received several warnings, when I approached my allowance of minutes. Since changing to a contract, evidently this does not happen and has left me with a jaw-dropping bill!!!

Yes, it is my fault but it has left me with what should be a 1 year bill, for only 1 month's worth of use.

I have used 900 mins, almost twice the 500 allocated, but the bill is not twice as high; it is almost 15 times!

So the question is, can anything be done. I have already pleaded with EE. Any advice? This has left me with an un-expected overdraft and fees to cover that also.

Thanks,

T23

You can ask them to switch you to a more expensive contract with a bigger allowance provided that they apply it retrospectively.

Nice! Any experience or luck doing this yourself?
  • Minutes x your allowance is irrelevant. Contracts always charge a high amount for calls in excess of your bundle and it is all covered in their t & c.

Use the call meter apps on your phone (or put them on there is they aren't already on). Same applies (MUCH higher cost than your relatively low excess for call charges) when applied to data. Live and learn.

All that can be really done is to learn the lesson and move on. Except for if they didn't give you notice of the bill being taken (i.e. a text saying your bill is ready, to prompt you to go online to see it), which might give rise to a claim under the Direct Debit Guarantee for a refund of the bank charges.
