burrn is an excellent piece of free software that converts mp3 to a CD player readable format and then burns to Cd - highly recommended by Me - I use it and it's great and dead easy to use

You may still be burning the audio files (not MP3s) but not as an audio disc.
MP3 is a format of audio that requires specific hardware or software to play - it's unlikely your in car cd player has this.
That means you need to burn the disc with wav files but not as a data disc - burnig the wavs as a data disc won't work either.
I suspect you're burning the cd as a data cd rather than an audio cd.
An MP3 disc is a data cd - an audio cd is for audio in a hifi or car stero.
when burning make sure you select "burn as audio" or some other similar option.

The brand of disc is something to watch out for but probably not the main problem you have.
