You need to change where you live. The exact proof of where you live which the HA will want will vary, but I'd imagine a tenancy agreement and council tax would be high on the list. If they suspect an address-of-convenience purely for the purposes of taking advantage of their scheme, you will get short shrift.

Does your friend inform tax/mortgage etc that you are living there? Or does he let his friend stay a few nights as a favour?
As I'd check with him before you officially move in or you may not have a friend for long!
I'd also guess (&hope!) That you couldn't just put yourself on the electoral roll at a friend's with the right post code and apply straightaway. Surely there's a minimum time limit
If the criteria is that you live and/or work there....And if you don't...then you don't fit the criteria.0 -
Does your friend who kindly lets you stop in their home pay council tax at a reduced rate as a single occupant of their property? If so, you may not remain friends much longer if you claim to be living there.

Some SO places also stipulate a minimum time that you have to have lived in the area. One I saw recently said it was 3 years.
So putting yourself on the electoral roll etc now, won't necessarily help.0 -

Would your friend take kindly to you switching your personal details to his address that may have implications on his credit rating, council tax liability, etc? If I was him and just doing you a favour by letting you sofa surf a few nights a week in return for some food and a few quid towards bills, I would would not think favourably of such a request.
Stop trying to find ways to circumvent the eligibility criteria for the shared ownership scheme.0 -

I do find these borough rules a little irritating - particularly when the Mayor of London actually funds a lot of these shared ownership schemes.
My eligibility criteria would be lived and paid council tax in a London borough for 5 years. On the current system a Pole could move to Battersea or Clapham and within a month be eligible for shared ownership there - whereas someone could have lived and paid taxes in Lambeth next door for 20 years and be ineligible.
Tower Hamlets have a new shared ownership scheme right next to the City in Aldgate. Their requirements are very interesting - not sure who they are referencing?

Bringing nationality into it may make the uncharitable feel you had some kind of motive going on.
Under your proposed five-year scheme, somebody who'd been living in Kent for 20yrs would be ineligible, whilst a Pole living in Lambeth for the five years since arriving here would be eligible...Tower Hamlets have a new shared ownership scheme right next to the City in Aldgate.
