How do I prove I live in the borough?

Hi All,

I was looking at a shared ownership housing scheme where one of the requirements is that I live or work in the London Borough of Wandsworth.

During the week I stay with my friend who owns a property in Clapham as it's more convenient to travel into London from there. I basically sleep on a blow-up bed in the living room and whilst not paying rent I basically pay for the food shopping and give him some cash each month towards the bills.

At weekends I go back to my parents who live in Sussex which I consider my home address as it's where my bank account is register and is basically my billing address.

So techniquely I am living in Wandsworth but not officially. Is there anyway I would be able to apply for a shared ownership property or is it a non-starter as there is nothing really in writing to say I am living there? Do I have to be on the electoral role or something in a certain borough?

    The electoral roll is usually a good proof of where a person lives.

    is the answer to your question - I don't think staying in "digs" during the week is going to count as "living" (otherwise people may as well circumvent these sorts of rules by booking hotel rooms!).

    No, 'techniquely' you live in Sussex.

    When considering where someone's primary residence is, authorities will look at

    * electoral roll
    * council tax payments
    * address used for banks, HMRC, pension, DVLA, DWP, employer etc
    * where most clothes/possessions are kept
    * Tenancy agreement
    etc

    It is the sum total of all the relevant evidence that determines the outcome

    Anyone could say they lived anywhere if the rules were that lax.
    Well life is harsh, hug me don't reject me.
  • So do you work in Wandsworth?
    "You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"
  • If you work in Wandsworth then you should still be eligible. It usually for people who either live OR work in the area, but double check with the housing association.

    I think we'll take this as a no...

    Answer the OP wanted to hear? No.
  • So what do I change to move there?

    Just get myself on the Electoral role?

    Change my bank address? Mobile phone address? Credit card address?

    What are the specifics? I would rather change as little as possible but will change what is needed.
