Why am I still having to pay for a phone line that I dont use?

its not really deliberately overpriced.
Virgin not only want the line rental, they want any additional revenue from call charges.
If customers were cheaply able to ditch the phone service I would expect many (like the OP) to do so, especially those with mobile contracts including free calls.0 -
if I only drive 4000 miles a year I pay the same as someone who drives 40000 ...
So a poor analogy, I'm afraid.
As already mentioned, Virgin do offer BB &TV without phone...0 -
This question seems to have been asked hundreds of times, on here.0

Look at the price of Virgin BB on it's own though vs an ADSL broadband product price without the line rental. Worlds apart.
Virgin BB on it's own is quite expensive as they need to recuperate the costs it takes to maintain the infrastructure. All your base are belong to us.0 -
You could get free line rental if you buy 250 shares in Adept Telecom . It would cost you around £600 at today's price. That's a tax free yield of about 34% and they also pay a small cash dividend.
Your capital is not guaranteed...0 -

Yes the extra maintenance being on the car that did only 4,000 miles.0 -

The wholesale price of the landline to your home from BT openreach is £8. BT Openreach made a billion pound profit last yearDo you want your money back, and a bit more, search for 'money claim online' - They don't like it up 'em Captain Mainwaring0

what irks me the most is that Virgin advertises the prices not including the cost of the landline. When you're taking out a broadband contract for the first time, it's misleading and confusing0
