Afternoon all. It's been a nippy one today but at least we've had blue sky and NO RAIN!! Mr TA is just having his nap (he gets really tired with his treatment) and when he wakes up we are going to watch last night's Vera on catch-up.
As expected the phlebotomy clinic was overflowing this morning but they soon whizz through people. There were 30 numbers in front of ours yet we only had to wait 35 mins! Prescriptions then collected and taken to Sainsbob's pharmacy and, as expected, I was tempted by a couple of offers to good to pass up on! Then onwards to the railway station to get our Rail Rover tickets for tomorrow. (A special offer with tokens from the local paper!) We are still planning the coast but if the weather doesn't live up to the good forecast we can always change to a different destination. Any route/destination permitted as long as we are on a Northern Rail train!
Poor you JUDI, you've enough on your plate without the painful SIL shoving her nose in.
Good luck with your research GERS. There's nothing so satisfying as finding the information yourself although, as you say, a researcher would do it much quicker. When I retired I developed a complete obsession with family history and had numerous branches of both my and Mr TA's trees going at the same time! My paternal great grandfather was in the Canadian Mounted Police and I applied for his service records - it cost a fortune to have them posted to me from Canada and I didn't get the outcome I wanted. It really upset me at the time, despite it happening over 120 years previously!
Have a nice rest of the day folks.xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -

I am now officially dogless til Friday; Millie was collected at 09:30 this morning. The franchisee asked how she'd been behaviour-wise (she can be a bit funny) and I gave her an A.:D Couldn't give her A* because she growled at Sweep when we were out yesterday (though this is expected with her, and why she wears a muzzle for walkies).
I've since Dys0ned up 2 cylinders full of Millie-hairs. Having a bit of a time-out for a few minutes because vacuuming always kicks my back off something rotten.
Hoppy Birdday to Mr BB, while I remember to say it.:beer:If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0 -

I've just used up the whole battery charge on my wee Animal hand held, took it into my head to move the big copper pot which has the logs in, and the other stuff next to the stove - what a mess! I need a rest too as it's too much bending but the big vacuum won't have fitted in the space.

My late brother was a professional genealogist and had published some of his work on Scots clans in Australia. He did some work on our family though he concentrated on the maternal (German) side of it as it was probably more interesting. I have no such skills.
TA - the CMP sounds fascinating, it's such a shame that documents aren't yet digitalised and so sent by email or something like dropbox. I know what you mean about the content being disappointing. I assume that people were too busy fighting to keep detailed records.
Sun is still shining, with a nip in the air now.0 -
Afternoon all,
The half term last week really went quickly. I'm back tomorrow and so did the a big clean up this morning and the Aldi shop this afternoon.
We had the little boy we look after again this weekend. His mum sent me a message on Friday teatime asking if we'd have him. We jumped at the chance. We took him to the country park on Saturday and then to the beach yesterday. He's only nine months old so probably doesn't care - but we loved it!!

Afternoon everyone
Back home after a week visiting family up north. Enjoyed lots of cuddles with dgs2 and playtime with dgs1, who now calls me grandma. Good journeys both ways. Ds2 had interviews for college course and an apprenticeship. Been offered full time if he doesn't find an apprenticeship. He has decided he wants to move back up with his dad once he leaves school. I've made sure things are in place but I'm trying to support him but still upset at the same time.
Os today kitchen cleaned, washing done, windows cleaned upstairs and done a bit more sorting.
Happy Birthday to Mr BB.
HH - glad your DD has found a house.
Redruby - I'm doing ok, thanks for asking.
TA - enjoy morecambe bay.
Hugs to anyone that needs/wants one. Take care.0 -
Aarrgghhhh, shout at lunch time from OH,' the whirly has collapsed', and it had, two of the arms had broken off. my laundry was sitting on the grass...... fortunately the sheets etc were dry so I did not have to re wash them. I will have to buy a new one now....have been pricing them up, will go to B & Q on Wrinkles day and get discount.
I will have to untangle the line from the whirly, we will be able to use it somewhere in the garden.0 -

No, on the contrary I got lots of very detailed records and letters, that's why the postage cost an arm and a leg. I wanted to find out what happened to him after the Mounties as I couldn't trace him back in the UK with his wife and children. The explanation of why is what I found upsetting. He didn't come back to them! He couldn't accept it when he was retired from service, he took to the bottle and kept turning up worse for drink pleading for more years of service. He died an alcoholic in a lodging house in Canada. It really upset me reading the letters about him - as though it had just happened and not way back in 1895!"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. Oh dear, what an end to a life. Things were so different all those years ago and difficult too. Such a shame. Mind you, all the deprivations of our ancestors makes me grateful to be around now.
Maybe sometimes no news is good news!0
