O/S Daily Monday 22 February 2016
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine
Morning everyone
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.
DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly so he can get ready for school.
Still dark, but looks damp underfoot but no frost.
Lunch yesterday was roast lamb, roasties, mash, cauli/broc cheese, brussels, carrots, peas, gravy and Yorkshires. Was not impressed with the meat at all – it was edible but wasn’t lovely soft roast lamb, like I usually manage to make by slow roasting it – it wasn’t particularly cheap either – so we won’t be going down that route again – if I want lamb I’ll buy it from either MrM’s butcher or a proper butchers. Dinner tonight will be gammon steaks, egg, roasted new potatoes, peas, and cheese sauce for those that want some.
Went to big diy store to look at paint for DS2’s bedroom – bought a couple of sample pots and now know what colour is favourite. That will be the chores for the easter weekend – we’re hoping to get both boys rooms re-decorated over that 4 day break.
Back to work for me today – it will most possibly be a manic Monday again – we’ll see.
Keep safe and well x

Just about to get ready for work.
The winds that flattened my tulips has died down so I shan't get blown to Bermuda in the way to work. Even with the wind, it was so mild yesterday that I didn't put the heating on until the evening.
TodayOH will pick up the car, exchanging it for wads of cash and do the weekly shopp:ing, DS will go to the gym, and I will come home to a meal cooked for me but the question is will it be something that I want to eat. ..
I must get busy, hope everyone has a good day.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning all
I'm hobbling around like a decrepit old lady, well I am a decrepit old lady, but DD is packed a ready to go.
I've fed the fish, taken hubby a cuppa and I'm about to set off to help with the school run and then on to work.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs HesterChin up, Titus out.0 -
Morning All
HH - So glad your DD has a house sorted, I hope the family will be happy in their new home.
Wet and yucky here, washing on the airers again. One day it will go outside! DW emptied and bag ready for work.
Had a lovely weekend with DD - painted the rest of her living room and we went off to Edinburgh yesterday for a wander. Lovely lunch at cheapish asian restaurant, DD treated us to a wonderful strawberry tart to eat when we got back to hers. The weather was slightly better over there but still bitterly cold.
Hope everyone's well and you have a good week. Take care. XX0 -
Good morning everyone :hello:
It's wet and windy here this morning. Hubby has gone off to work minus his umbrella as he would do a 'Mary Poppins' otherwise. Girls are faffing around getting ready for school and I am on my second cup of tea.
My friend Clare is coming round this morning. She is doing a lot better and seems to be coming through her bad time. I am looking forward to having a cuppa with her and putting the world to rights which normally consists of a gentle moan about our respective teens.
I am very dizzy and feel quite drugged up this morning. My blood sugar is still running very high, my face pain returned yesterday so I took quite a few pain killers and this morning I feel funny. We had a very busy weekend as well with grandchildren staying and looking after my sister's dog as well. I am going to have a quiet day once Clare has gone home. Hubby is making noises about having curry for tea so that will be easy. I will just have the chicken curry and miss out on the rice.
The house work will be missed for today apart from a quick tidy round in the living room. I have loads of washing to do but it will wait till later or tomorrow.
Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx0 -
Morning all,
Monday morning again I swear these come round quicker and quicker and the weekends go by in the flash of an eye.
Off to work for me, dinner is made and ready to be put in the oven by whoever gets in first. Its a chicken curry for us and a quorn one for dd.
I pickled my shallots yesterday and they look very nice indeed, in fact I bought some more to do at the weekend lets hope they taste nice as we now have loads :rotfl:
Housework pretty much up to date but may need to do a wash tonight, and maybe sweep the kitchen.
Right better get on have good days all xx0 -
Morning all and aaargh just lost my post!! Much better day, no wind and no rain here!
We have decided to get the train to the west coast (Morecambe bay area) for our day trip out, but we are leaving it until tomorrow as that's when the coast gets the better forecast - of course they have been known to get it wrong!
So today we will go to the phlebotomy clinic and queue for ever for our blood tests. Then onwards to the surgery to collect our prescriptions. We have "sacked" the pharmacy next to the surgery cos we are sick of all the !!!! ups and excuses. So next stop Sainsbob's pharmacy and will try and refrain from buying anything whilst in there!
Seeing as the sun is supposed to shine I had better flick a duster around as it shows up every speck of dust and then a quick whizz round with the vac. No plans for much else. Lots of chicken left from yesterday, plus an assortment of veg, so that's dinner spoken for. Lunch probably soup and a sandwich (chicken obviously!)
Have a good day all (((HUGS))) where wanted/needed. Take care x ps so glad your DD and family are sorted HESTER."If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0 -
Morning everyone,
Well, am up and ready to go to work. Still coughing but compared to this time last week I feel great, it's a nasty old virus all right and does makes me wonder about having the flu jab next year.
Grey and overcast here but not exactly cold, am hoping we see some sunshine later as it makes such a difference.
Talking to my DOH about some decorating needed in the cottage, just brightening up really, will save up for some new curtains in the lounge but have four windows so will take a bit of time.
Have good day all x0 -
Morning all,
I must have been unconscious when the men went to work this morning cause I didn't hear a thing. A message from Youngest a few minutes ago tells me he tripped over his feet on the stairs in the rush to get out and he thinks he's broken his toe.
Managed to get a copy of the inspection report done by the council a few weeks ago on the residential home where Mom is. It isn't good as I guessed. They have made major improvements in Mom's room (probably because I've taken on the cleaning in there) but up to now I've not had reason to fault their care. Yesterday one of the new carers gave Mom a drink without a straw. Mom can't drink without a straw. I think I'm going to have to talk to the manager as I was there to put the mistake right but what when I'm not there? When Mom dies I want it to be because of her body shutting down. Not due to insufficient carer support. I think I'm going to go and see Mom today and sod the housework.
Onwards and forwards

Good morning everyone.
Just as I am writing this Etta James is being played on the radio - 'at last my sky is blue' and that's exactly what I have too, and sunshine as well. I can get my mucky white living room rugs washed and hopefully out on the line. :j:j
Yesterday was so awful that I didn't do anything productive, just pottered around the house putting things away, moving other things around and making a pile of unwanted things.
My sleep had a wake up period at 4.00am. A comfort trip turned into a reading hour and then I fell into a deep sleep again.
Today I have a parcel to post and will risk a walk. Food will be come chickeny with veggies.
Judi - I really hope that you can sort things out for you mum and feel more at rest about her.
Right, off to the utility room, washing machine won't fill itself.
Happy Monday everyone.0 -
Good morning all,
Dry here but overcast. We had a quiet weekend, but we did go to look at stair carpet . I was told before we went "we are just looking", and when we are there he goes up to the salesman and asks how long it will take once the order is placed:) Anyway they are coming tomorrow to measure up and give us a quote.
Lainey I am glad you are feeling a little better, take things steady today.
Dumpling I am sorry you are not feeling so good, I hope you improve after your friend has been to see you.
Judi, I do think you are right keeping a close eye on Mum and the home. When my Mum was alive she was very poorly and the so called doctor diagnosed her over the phone. I was furious, I was working in those days so I phoned the surgery, said I wanted Mum to be referred to a consultant and I would pick the referral letter up in 2 days. I told them which consultant I wanted to see and we went private. Her leg was beginning to turn black and I thought gangrene straight away. How can you diagnose an elderly person over the phone. Mum was in hospital within the week(this was NHS) and she recovered very well, although she died later from something totally different.
You don't have a second chance with an elderly person because they can deteriorate so quickly. You go for it Judi because your Mum can't say she needs a straw to drink.
Have a good day all and take care
