Stealth refilling of lpg tank

Hi, I am a new tenant in a property with a 2000 litre lpg tank.
I did recently require to Calorgas a refilling, however I also asked clarifications about whether it was possible to have a partial refilling (since I am not sure for how long I will be a tenant).
I got no answer, and one evening I just found the tank was filled to the brim while I was out, for a total expense of over 450 GBP.
I didn't expect that, and I'm wondering whether this is legitimate.
Any feedback welcome, thanks in advance.

I'm not sure about LPG, I'm an oil user myself. But I'm assuming it's a similar process.
How did you "require" ( I assume you mean "enquire" ) about refilling ? By phone ? And when you say you asked about "partial refilling" - what was actually said ? Certainly with oil, you phone them up and say "I'd like 1000 litres please", or whatever. I assume LPG is the same - you ask them to supply a specific number of litres.
And when you ordered the fuel, did you give them your card or bank details ? Again, most oil suppliers take card details and charge the account when they've delivered ( some do it on account for regular customers ).
We need more details about what you actually said to them, and what they agreed to. If you ordered ( by phone ), say, 500 litres and they delivered 1000, then you can take it further. If all correspondence was via email then there should be no issue, just make sure you keep all the emails safely. If you can give us more details we may be able to advise you.0 -
With bulk LPG you will have a contract with a supplier (Calor in this case) normally for a period of 2 years, your landlord should have informed you, or given you some paperwork. When moving into a new property you need to sign up for a new contract, otherwise the supplier may not be aware that you are the new occupier and will supply as if the old contract with the previous occupier is in place. You have the right to chose your supplier, you are not tied to Calor.
The contract normally sets out if there is a minimum delivery (e.g. 1000 litres) or if the supplier will do 'auto top ups', first thing to do is check your contract. Often suppliers will only refill a tank when it is low (less than 25%), then they will do a full fill to around 80% (unless you are on a top up scheme where they operate slightly differently), this is to save their transport cost, our supplier will not take an order for delivery of less than 1000l.
There is a lot of information about Bulk LPG in the Bulk LPG thread which is sticky at the top of the page:

What price per litre are Calor charging for your LPG as at current market prices, your delivery would be nearly 1500l?0
