Getting broadband for the first time

Hi everyone

I've just moved into a place on my own for the first time so need to get broadband installed. I like the look of the Plus Net deal, but have a few questions which I'd be so grateful if you could help with:

- there is a BT phone socked in one of the rooms but there is no dialling tone when I plug a phone in, so I assume it's disconnected as the flat has been empty for some time. Do I need to reactivate it before getting the Plus Net deal?

- how long does it typically take to get connected, and are there any engineer visits needed etc?

Thanks so much!

    1) Its more likely the phone line is just disconnected at the exchange as opposed to not actually working. Go to plus.net's website and look up the address "check what's available where you live" section and make sure you click on the "I don't have a phone number" link first.

If there is no (BT) phone line at the address, it'll tell you, otherwise it'll give you the option to take the line over.

This will also answer the rest of your questions depending on the outcome of the above enquiry. It typically takes ten days to get going and if you have "normal" broadband (ie not the fibre) and there is a working line, you won't need an engineer visit. A fibre broadband install requires an engineer visit as they would need to change the socket and fiddle around in the appropriate green box.
