does it really need to change
it doesn't really have seemed to stop younger members coming here or are you saying you think we're all old fogies,

in fact deciding to change seems to be causing more trouble and upset than the socalled innappropriate description did!!!!!

    Hi all,

I'm quite new to the boards but I've been "lurking" for a while now. The current description didn't put me off at all and I'm 24.

Of the suggestions I like queenie's best.
Life would be fabulous if I wasn't in debt!

Would anybody else like to offer a suggestion for the Old Style description in the Forum Home Page?

(I'm planning on closing suggestion offers late on Sunday and then starting a proper voting poll first thing on Monday morning.)

Squeaky and I have talked it over and have decided that, since there have been no new suggestions, we have decided to start start the poll so it crosses two weeks to try not to clash with holidays too much and even as I type Squeaky is beavering away to produce the POLL. It will be brought to you ASAP :)

Whilst I can understand the reference to "Old Style" in a way, this is actually Money Saving New Style! Let me explain .... Old Style assumes you were around to appreciate the old style or WW2 methods. Or that you are old enough to remember what your Granny/Mum did. For many, the norm is to go to the Supermarket and buy whatever product claims to do what you want. For those people, this is the ONLY way - there is no "Old Style" as they have never known any different.

In order to remember WW2 methods, one would need to be in one's 70s. I get the impression that the average age here is somewhere in the 30s.

I like to think that we are finding "new" ways of doing things, even if those ways are actually to regurgitate the old ways.

Clearly, many are not at all put off by the Old-Style title. But we shall never know how many are ... simply because they see it as a throwback to a less comfortable lifestyle. In actual fact, I think that Old Style is all about making lifestyle more comfortable now, even for those for whom money is no object.

I would go so far as to suggest that we need a new Board name  as well as a new description.

I don't expect to get much support and will not stop contributing if the Board name reamains ... just my two penneth - that's old 2d - for those that remember ;)
    Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac ;)

    Funny you should say that.

In our Welcome and Beginner's Guide currently under construction and soon to be unveiled - Old Style in a New Style way is mentioned very early :)

We even use words like "modern" :)

The words "Old Style" made me look at the thread and I think those words should be kept in the heading somewhere I think MoneySaving Oldstyle says it all and I am 33 not 70. I think OldStyle says to people modern living the oldstyle way.
