Getting online - any help, please?

I'm trying to help someone get online in their new flat.

After some weeks of living there, she's just discovered a landline phone point in the hallway. We plugged in a borrowed handset and found the line is live - and dialling 150 gets us through to Sky.

My friend is used to mobiles and doesn't actually want a landline phone... but is keen to have broadband in the flat for her laptop internet use.

I thought I'd help out by ringing Sky and seeing if they can set something up using this phone point... but the thought occurred to see if you guys have any words of advice before doing this.

Might there be another and, above all, cheaper option..?

Sky broadband will require also the land line rental . That is you pay for the land line to give you access to a broadband service .It would not have to be Sky but price for landline rental is roughly similar .
Light user i would be looking at mobile network access via a dongle .
