Adding anything to a piece of child or baby equipment isn't advisable for safety reasons.whether it be filler, covers, or extra bolts, in case the child takes them out and chokes on them.

Op if you don't like the look of the cot bed , sell it and buy another.

I don think many children will get the bolts out of the one we had unless you give them a hex key.

Maybe. I remember cot bolts being quite long, while the depth of that headboard looks quite shallow.also doesn't an Allan key screw have to go into a thread?

Yeah, we were provided with the gear to do it all from memory. Mind you it wasn't an Argos cotbed.

I would not think that filler could be removed by a child, but I still would not use it as it would make it difficult to sell on when the child had our grown it.

The holes are purely cosmetic, I would just leave them as they are.
  • Hi thanks for messages - my point is that yes, the site picture shows two holes in the headboard. I have four holes that go all the way through the wood on each corner, so that is 16 holes in total on display. I would attach a picture of my toddler bed, but I cant find how to do it. with regards to the drawer, I only have one, I guess it is the larger drawer as it does not fit under the bed as the bed to low now.

Personally I think you're right to be annoyed. Argos are selling a product with a photo that doesn't represent the actual product. It doesn't matter that it's cosmetic - if cosmetic issues were unimportant they wouldn't make such a feature of the colour, style etc on their website. And if the holes were unimportant, why would Argos (or the manufacturer) go to the trouble of disguising them on the photo?

On the subject of the drawer, it's somewhat disingenuous to claim it fits under the 'cot' rather than the 'cotbed'. I'm sure they would claim that's accurate, but it's certainly not helpful.

But the key question is whether you can do anything about it after so long. Unfortunately I suspect that Argos will simply claim that you should have seen the issues at the time you bought it. Logically under the Sale of Goods Act you'd be entitled to a remedy (repair, replacement or partial refund) but as only a partial refund is possible, I can't see Argos being very forthcoming. You'd have to take it to the small claims court, where there's no guarantee of success, and it's probably not worthwhile anyway.

It may be worth writing to Argos head office, expressing your displeasure at them using photoshopped pictures as advertising, but beyond that probably best to let it be.
  • Thank you for all your response. A quick update, I've spoken to someone from the Directors office at Argos. Argos have are refunding me my money and allowing me to keep the product. Well done Argos.

Good result. Wonder if Argos will also amend the photo and description.

    What a good result.

I cannot understand why it was so badly designed.

We had a cot that converted into a bed and never had these problems.

Well done Argos, you have gone up in my estimation.
