I am looking to buy a cd walkman, even a used one will do. Have looked on Ebay, they have a few there, some visibly overpriced.
I am looking at good sound quality (that's why I have mainly looked at the sony ones), but worry about the sound output. I know that some of them have a feature that won't allow the sound to be too loud to protect your hearing but with that feature I find the output too low to enjoy fully what I am playing.

Which are the best cd walkman to go for soundwise that you still can find to buy?

The earring protection can normally be switched off. Ask before buying.

If you are wearing earrings you should make sure you get the right ear/headphones.....:D
Out of interest, why are you after a CD Walkman? It's not something you see many people wanting these days.
I think Sony stopped making them.....Philips do one still...

    Damn......corrected :rotfl:
I just never came around to get into mp3 and have a collection of cds that I can't listen to on the go. I'm sure I will come around one day and burn a few of my favourites onto an mp3 player, I did look into it once but it sounds so time consuming that I did shy off.
I had a few things downloaded on my phone to listen to, but the battery life on those smart phones are dire, so I am not using my phone for that.
And I like the old ways of doing things, easier and quicker in my opinion, just a bit bulkier. I have an old hifi system with 3 tray cd player, radio and 2 cassette players, I don't know what I will do the day it packs up, it seems systems with cd players are on their way out.
(I am not using the cassette players anymore though:) )
It seems vinyl will survive anything, and that is even bulkier:D
And I have a thing about using AA batteries to power my gadgets, I still have an old digital camera which uses AA battery (Nikon Coolpix 7600), get a supply of AA or go in any shop to buy them if you run out. Still making good photos.
I had a cordless Black&Decker screw driver I had to charge, every time I needed it the battery was flat and I had to charge it again, if I needed to use it over a few days, it had the bad habit to stop working right in the middle of something I was doing, and I had to revert to good old screw drivers. Give me corded anytime.
Maybe I should add Dino in front of my username:D

Following the feedbacks on Amazon, the cd walkman you suggested has to be avoided.

I understand where you are coming from, but, I think it would be worth your while ripping your CD's. It's pretty easy with something like iTunes, just pop your disc into the PC and iTunes rips them automatically in minutes. This would then give you more choices.
However, as always, it's a personal choice and you should always do whatever you feel most comfortable with.
Sorry that Philips is not rated, there are a few more out there, Bush etc, have a look in Argos. Or go ebay for Sony.
    Good luck.

Alas the march of technology means older answers, like CD (disc and player), go out of date and are no longer mass-market. That means they will get more expensive year on year as the market contracts, until it stops altogether. Maybe when you get this CD Walkman it's time to consider that it may be your last, and look at alternatives for a few years time.

I actually agree about vinyl TBH, and even a high position Compact Cassette can be as good as CD to pretty much all observers. Those LP's will be readable long after the last CD player snuffs it, and kept cool and dry you have an archive for hundreds of years!

Yes, I've done that, but they don't say if the quality is there or not, or if that hearing thing is still on it or was removed in case of a used one .
As you said, they are quite expensive things to buy, I don't want to buy one to realise that the sound can only go half way of what it should be. All that because of the stupid EU regulation
The USA doesn't seem to have had the same problem, maybe I should buy an American one, but not sure the player will be able to play in the UK.

Isn't iTunes for Apple products only?

Not everyone wants to pay for mobile data connection to listen to music on the move.

I guess 64Gb MP3 player or micro SD card can take more than 60 CDs converted to MP3 format.

Got one, gone for a used Sony D-EJ925, seemed to have been the dogs bullocks in the olden times. It got an AVLS on and off switch.
There was one brand new sold in the USA for £350. Thankfully the one I've gone for costs a fraction of that.
