Hi, I live in a 2 bed flat with no gas (there is gas in block). How much roughly would it be to get GCH installed - can't cope with the inconvenience of storage heaters any longer!

Get some quotes and then you'll know for certain.0 -
Wish I could swap you. We had storage heaters put in at our old house and gas central heating taken out. It was much, much better for us. Wish I could afford to do it in this house.
What don't you like about storage heaters?I love a bargain. Now mortgage and debt free. hurray!!:smileyhea0 -

That seems ... well ... silly. Gas central heating is more flexible than electric storage heating. Gas central heating is slightly cheaper to run than electric storage heating. Yes it is much more expensive to maintain with an annual service required and a replacement schedule of 15 years instead of 40 years and you've also got standing charges with gas but I imagine you've still got those standing charges. Do you cook with gas?
You would also have had to install a hot water cylinder which was twice the capacity of the one that was installed with a gas boiler. If you had kept the old smaller one and have a bath then you most likely would run out of hot water and pressing the boost button on an electric immersion element is as stated on here many time about 3 times as expensive as pressing the boost button on the gas boiler.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

Depending on how many rooms, and the size of your house, but a good guestimate for a good quality (vaillant or worcester boiler) probably £4K ish0

All depends on the additional cost of running the gas supply into the apartment itself-we have no idea of the distance or complexity involved. Then there is the cost of installing the metering. No free lunch, and no free laptop0

In rely to your question, our friend had a house with storage heaters. We hadn't seen them before that. You get to heat them up on economy7. we had to have the meters changed, but this meant we could also run the washing machine and dryer at night, or early morning. They are "on" 24/7, unlike central heating which is on and off, so keeping the rooms a more consistent temperature. We lived in a 4 bed end terrace at the time and it cost us quite a bit less to run storage heaters than gas central heating. I'd swap back any day.I love a bargain. Now mortgage and debt free. hurray!!:smileyhea0
