You've posted in the water bills sub-forum but I'll answer you anyway as it also applies to water bills too.

They'll chase both of you for the entire bill. You can pay half but they'll expect you to pay the other half too if your flatmate does not.

If your flatmate is refusing to pay then you'll need to have a word with him and if he continues to refuse to pay then you'll need to move out at the end of tenancy then take court action against him to force him to reimburse you.
    :footie:
:p Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S) :p Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money. :p
  • Thats a bit unfair if i have paid my half. We moved out ages ago so is there something i can do now. Hes refusing to pay
  • Can i take him to court even tho the bill is £170

Yes, but that won't stop the LA pursuing you (and/or him) for the full amount. How you divide it between you is a third party dispute and of no concern to them at all-you are both jointly and severally liable for the entire debt.
Non payment will probably result in a summons and an attachment of earnings order, if appropriate, so you'd be wise to settle it now and then attempt recovery from your ex-flatmate.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
