To see how I would get on with a smart phone without spending much, I bought this:- http://www.uswitch.com/mobiles/news/2015/07/ee-rook-49-4g-smartphone-revealed/ it was OK, but didn't use it much because of the small amount of data (100mb) in my sim only allowance.
However, as I am in the process of having a new sim only deal go through:-

But as with most things, I think I'd like a phone that has a slightly larger keyboard so I don't touch two at a time and one that has a better quality camera than the Rook.
With the hundreds of phones available, both new and second hand, I really don't know where to start. No doubt the budget helps. I wouldn't want to pay more than £100, much less if possible. I would use it for calls, text, messenger video, skype and photo's. Any idea's please. I don't do music, youtube, etc

Moto E £70 @ Tesco Direct (easy to unlock, + £10 top up)
Huawei P8 Lite £90 @ Carphone Warehouse (their phones are usually unlocked, however £10 top up still needs to be bought).
A little over budget, Wileyfox Swift, Moto G?0 -
You can get a second hand Vodafone (but unlocked) Smart Ultra 6 on fleabay for less than £100 and I highly recommend them.
The Moto's (G and E) are also good value.0
