Presumably that model like most now didnt have a SS wheel, so it wont have a "well" in the boot is that correct?

Many new cars do have a well - whether a spare is standard or not. If a spare's on the options list, then there's a well. It may be full of nothing more than a piece of foam with cutouts for an aerosol and a compressor, but it's there.

I have 2012 Fiesta, my space saver arrived yesterday, it says 125/80R15
    Spare tyre, temporary use only

That isn't too far off the correct size.

    However a more exact / perfect match for a 195/55 15 would be a 135/80 15 spacesaver.

The only restriction you would have with using a spacesaver is the speed is limited to 50mph.

There is no restriction on the distance you can drive with it.

I carry a big garden refuse bag in the boot to take the dirty/wet full-size punctured tyre and wheel.

Before you need it have you checked your current alloy wheel nuts/bolts hold it secure?

It is my understanding that you can use alloy wheel nuts on steel wheels, but not nuts for steel wheels on alloys.

My old fiesta had a steel spare wheel, and I used the alloy nuts on that.

Thanks for all the replies.. Very helpful

I now just have to search for a stowage box to fit the 15" space saver, and also the retaining screw.

There's two factors - length and seat shape.

Wheels for steels tend to be shorter than for alloys, as alloy wheels have to be thicker for the same strength (which is also why road-spec alloys are often heavier than steels). If there're sufficient threads engaged - at least the diameter of the bolt - then it's fine. If there's too much thread, it might protrude from the back of the hub and foul on the carrier. Obviously, if it's nuts and studs rather than bolts, those are both non-issues.

Seat shape, though MUST match the wheel - and can vary between different styles of alloy, as well as alloys and steels. Or they might be the same. Only a check will tell you. A car that left the factory with alloys will have had a steel spare that matches the seat shape on the alloys. A car that left the factory with steels will have had a steel spare that matches the seat shape on the steels. They might be different steel spares between the two...

    May do this myself.

I don't have an alloy wheel, would I still need to check if standard wheel?

No, because your car will have been supplied with the correct nuts/bolts if it was originally supplied with them.

It will have the correct fasteners for the four road wheels. The question is whether the spare that's been purchased has the same seats.
